Would you buy an R/T if........

........it had the same specs as a Gen 2 Lightning?? My buddy asked me, and I thought it was a good question. Hypothetically, if they were equal from the factory in HP, torque, and pretty much all performance tests, I would definitely go with the Dak. Please, put down the baseball bats and your fists, I am just saying that I do like the looks and the color options more. So am I alone here, or will anyone else admit it??

Honesty wow..... Well to be honest I bought my truck when i was 19 ( with money from my job no mommy or daddy here)

When I bought it the R/T was the only truck besides the 95 Ls to chose from. I had my heart set on a performance Truck and being that my first truck WAS a FORD I fell in love with the gen1 Ls. BUT no warranty and such turned me off to them. I looked everything avaible and there was nothing out..the gen2 was 2 friggin monthes away.... would I have bought that then HELL YEA ! would I have bought the gen 2 if the performance and such were the same HELL YEA. BUT would I trade my R/T for a Gen 2 L HELL NO! the performance you can get out of the R/Ts Dinosuar 360 is SICK. you can Blow it you can sttroke it you can juise it and its a sleeper in the auto world...I like being the underdog... now...if I had my choise of the top three that could be coming out....

the vote would go. 1. Ram SRT10
2. Gen2/(3?)Lightning
3. R/T if it has the hemi(most likely it will have a 4.7l)


so there you go...once a Ford man and still faithful(i do own a mustang GT) Mopar is my Passion though I cant get away...they have sucked me in to the Darkside!! lol

I just gotta LOL! Another "die-hard" Ford fan here at work has recently jumped ship over to Mopar when:

1) His '98 Windstar van developed power steering woes at ~46K mi and Ford refused to fix it under warranty........... he immediately traded it for a new 300M.

2) 3 weeks later, his "well maintained", "religiously oil-changed" '~96Kmi '93 Explorer plugged up the oil pickup screen w/ gunk (a PVC problem??) and spun a few bearings......... he turned around and purchased new PT Cruiser.

While he still worships Rusty Wallace, he has finally cured his "blue-oval" fever and has now grabbed life by the horns.

Myself, if SVT would have made an ext-cab L2, that's probably what I'd be driving now. But they don't, and I'm not.

I'll assume he was using oil in the green bottle---you know---Caker State.

I have seen that stuff gum/cake/congeal/ on quite a few valvetrains.

NOT SURE FORD WILL STEP UP AGAINST DODGE

If you guys remember when the Mustang was on top bigtime from 88 until till Chebby released the new Z28.The Cobra had long since been the big brother of the mustang eating up any production car that picked on its little bro.It couldnt take the Z28 for years.And before you guys stone me to death,I love Fords and always had a 7 sec. street stang.It bothered me bad Is my point.Ford got hammered in all the mags until the Cobra R came out.It took a while for that and then the price....whew.Im just saying If Dodge does produce this truck,I don't think Ford SVT will jump on It and produce something faster(truck).Not for a few years anyway But I also disagree with what someone wrote about the Dodge having a good price tag.Theres no way they can drop a Viper V10 In and have a moderate price on It.

a few weeks back, my wife and I went for breakfast at a little restaurant called Alice's on hwy 35 out here. anyone who's been there can tell you that it's an exotic car and motorcycle rest spot. when we came out of the restaurant, there was a Ferrari 550 Maranello, and Porshe 996 turbo parked near me and the two owners as well as a few bike owners were all checking out the L. as soon as i walked up, i was hit with a barage of questions. i just don't think the R/T can get that kind of attention.

Not a chance. Only thing better about the R/Ts is color choice, IMHO. I sat in one at NAIAS last year. Didn't even like the interior. Pretty truck on the outside profile, but not as pretty as an L. They do have the CC over the L, but I find myself hoping SVT never produces an extra-cab L. I just love it the way it is. Well, with about 100 more horsies chompin at the bit, that is.

Once upon a time...

I had a 70 Road Runner and my RT at the same time...

Didnt matter which I drove.. I got TONS of attention. The Road Runner got sold ( To some dumb kid with too much $$$ ) But the RT is still around and STILL getting comments regularly... few times a week at least. So yeah.. the RT can and DOES get the same respect. Too many times to name specifics.. but it gets ALOT of attention when I drive it thru the local cruise areas...

I wouldn't choose the R/T over the Lightning. I do, however really like the R/T I think they are sweet looking and you have a great platform to build from. I really like the CC option and that might get me in one. If the right deal ever came along I would buy one. From a looks standpoint the Xtreme's are good looking!
If Chevy would just drop a small block in it that would be sweet!

Hardly . Every time I go to the track there are guys skipping over the Gen II Ls to come jock my R/T. Don't believe me? Just ask a few of the Houston R/Ts. One of the Houston R/Ts just bought an '01 L so that's your un-biased opinion. Go ahead........ask....

But If there where no Lightnings and I didnt work for ford I would get the RT in a heatbeat.

When I said to keep everything the same, but bump the performance to equal levels, I also meant the price. I'm just saying that for $24,000 I could get the performance, color, and room (ext cab) that I want. The Extreme with the same performance would be sick! Very nice. I remember a magazine showing a preview of the Extreme and it made it look so enticing, but then they were released with the huge HP defecit.
It was just a question guys, and I gave my answer. I too have been a passenger in an R/T on a daily basis and also drove it. It's not all that crazy to consider getting one once it's up to the same level from the factory as the Gen 2's.

i've owned my R/T for over 3 years now. and i must say that i do get a lot of questions about it. but that's probably because of the shaker hood and exhaust. so when people come over and ask what it is, they get freaked out when they find out it's a 360 small block from the factory. keep in mind, the R/T is a lil truck compared to an L. but on the otherhand, the L2s are badass trucks, and when i saw a bunch of 'em in the LOW 12s with minor mods and slicks, i became a believer. i am however waiting for a RAM SRT/10....

IMHO I think the RT looks like a regular Dak. There is too many dealers putting the painted bumpers and flares on the sport. The L just stands out.

Personally I think the R/Ts are badass and I would like to get one but I am a diehard Ford man, and Ford pays the bills. And about the Lightning and R/T comparison its like apples to oranges to me. One is mid-sized, one is full sized. One is N/A, one is supercharged. I like the Lightning much better myself. It gets attention everywhere I go with it.
