Winter upgrades??

Motivational Speaker
Since the tracks are closed/closing for the winter, what mods are you guys thinking of doing during the down time?? Im going with the EEC-Tuner for the extra tuning to reach the 11s next year. In February I might be getting a PI stall convertor, too. These sound like good investments in the "need for speed" department. Whats on the adjenda for you guys??

Humm, for the short term headers,3" X or H pipe(whatever we can get fabricated),PI converter, and some lightweight wheels. Thinking about some bogarts

Hope that will give the extra little bit to get into the 11's. Of course there's always the thought of taking the 393 with the TFS R heads out of the coupe hehehe.

For opening day, I will have the ported GT-40X heads on along with the Steeda 1.72 roller shaft rockers. I'm searchin for a 12 second timeslip this year.
In the mean time, I've got a lot of work to do. As you can see I would like to open up the exhaust port a bit but am hesitant about going to the Bassani gasket line, look at pic #1. The thermactor air port is up there close and am afraid I'll go into it if I go into the port ceiling to far, what are your opinions. Also will get a good 3 angle valve job, these heads have about 3 thousand miles on them and come from Ford Motorsports with just a 1 angle job as near as I can tell. Heard that these heads pick up the low lift flow with a competition valve job. Might even go to a 1.6" Manley exhaust valve but that is more expense. The intake has been worked real well and I won't touch (pic#2). Also a little bowl work was performed by the previous owner(Mustanger)and the work looks real good to me.
What are you guys thoughts on the CC? Pic #3?
I'm thinking the exhaust valve looks somewhat shrouded and was thinking of relieving it back to the head gasket line, at the cost of picking up a cc or two and loosing a tad of compression. If I do the 1.6 valve I will probably do this. One thing though ,I don't want to upset the swirl action of the combustion chamber and I'm not sure if unshrouding the exhaust valve will do this.
Any comments or ideas from any of you fellow drag racers will be much appreciated.
THanks
Steve

Hope all your winter projects are as productive as mine. I want to see some trucks really flying next year.

Good luck everyone, and happy holidays.

Well, the TFS/Fox Lake heads are on so It's just figuring out turbo size and putting that on.(sounds easy)
I'm hoping for a mid 11 1/4 mile so the tranny will most likley give up and then it'll be level ten time.

Opps steve I ment Manley conecting rods, I edited it.

You guess is close on #6

But your still way off on #5

I am not touching the cams, not enough power for what kind of money I would have to spend to regrind the cams.

How is all your winter projects coming along? Any good stuff for Christmas? It looks like my EEC-Tuner will be here on Tuesday or so. Hopefully Ill be able to get this thing into the 12s on the motor and 11s on the juice. Looks like some Ranchos or CalTracs next. Ill need major hook.

Then I woke up

Well I just bought me some land, 2.48 acre to be exact, to build my house and lightning garage on , or should I build the garage first. MMM. So the money for the truck will be tight. I am gonna change out the Christmas tree on the mirror, clean the floor mats and pump 5 more lbs of air in the front tires. I figure that should net me about a .4 sec drop in the 1/4:p Hey last year I put on electric fans, hung a christmas tree on the mirror and put on 2 1/2" tail pipes and that brought my times down from a best of 13.38 to 12.55. This year with the above mentioned upgrades I should see 12.20's at about 108.32:eek:

Hey Dennis! I can relate to you. This is what will be completed before the Lightning. I've been working on this for over a year. Meanwhile, more and more Lightning parts accumulate in the back bedroom.

8Dec01_KJL5.jpg

Good news is that Monday and Tuesday of this coming week we will lay the foundation. On the 26th we will begin framing. So it's finally coming together.

But when this is all done, the Lightning project begins. Parts to be installed:
- Ported Dart heads
- Custom cam
- Custom longtubes (have to fab up an X-pipe)
- VEX1 mass air with EEC-Tuner
- S-Trim w/ 8-rib drive (goal is 14-16# of boost)
- Powerstroke intercooler
- Ranchos
- Little supporting stuff like a fuel system and gauges

Lots of work (fun) ahead of me. But I gotta get this house done first!!! :)

Later,

Please post some pics of that new setup.Id love to see the intake I bet it looks great!

Here is a pic of it installed on a stang. It is the same intake. My setup is not finished yet. I still have to reinstall the rear tank and finish up plumbing the fuel system. Then I have to buy an EEC tuner to get it all to run right. I am still speed density.
