Which tire should I use at the track? ET street or Nitto?

Basically what I have are 16" ET streets mounted on some spare tire F150 wheels. And they are really skinny. Way to small for the truck I think.

Then I have some of the new nittos. So far I love them. They hook great after they heat up, on the street though. Its seems they would hook great at the track if they do on a cold street.

Since last race season I have added a PI torque converter, high flow cats, transgo shift kit, built level 10 4R100, .280 Metco upper pulley, and some Metco upper track links for some added traction.

Which tire would you use? I am leaning towards the nittos because I am hearing good things about them on here.

What would you all use?

Throw the nittos away run the MTETs. Those rims work great. I used them for over a year. NO TUBES. Air 18-20 hot. 5 second burnout after you see blue smoke. They will beat the nitttos by .1 or more.

Well, I'm giving up on those short ET streets, and going with 28" tall Hoosier's!! I should get them this week! I thought about the Nitto's until the Hoosiers actually came out!

The reason why I say one or the other is because I am getting my upper track links set up to the 18" nittos. These upper track links are adjustable and I don't know if throwing the 16" ET streets would throw the pre-sets/pinion angle or whatever off on the upper track links.

I guess it doesn't matter anyway, its going to rain Saturday!!

When its dry, I will make some passes on both and do a little comparo on Nittos and ET streets.

DL,
You might also want to add that your truck has the 5# lower pulley and the 1# upper pulley which is making some serious power off the line!:tu: I see some high 1.60's in your near future when you get the pinion snubber installed!;)

Noel, when did you compare the Nittos to the ET Streets first hand? I'm guessing you haven't.

Two here have tried nittos on their Lightnings. Here is his not my response:

" tried the NITTOS at HRWP,it was like driving in the rain. They work better than stock, but last half as long.I wouldn`t recomend their use other than for street raceing."

The above quote is a direct cut n paste off our HALO forum.
The other user report was similar but I can't find his quote to copy it. HRWP is the 1/4 mile track here in Houston. It is known for always having excellent bite.

IMO... On a decently prepped track the Nittos will do just fine. On one thats not quite as good the ET Streets will fair much better. No I have never ran the tires on my Lightnings but I have used them on both of my mustangs. Had a 1.53 60 on 275/50/15 Nittos on my 90 coupe and a 1.72 with 275/40/17 Nittos on my 93 hatch.

Hey guys, where are you getting your nittto's and how much are you paying? I'm getting ready to replace the rear tires and wanted to switch to them. Thanks in advance.

If David cut's some 1.60's, I don't know who will be happier, me or him! It friggin' blows my mind to see a 2 1/2 ton street driven vehicle leave that hard! :tu: ;t

I just got my upper track links adjusted and the truck feels great. Its 70 degrees down here and the tires hook great on the street. Can't wait to see what it does at the track!!

One of the guys showed up with the new 28" Hoosiers at our car club meet Saturday. They seemed to work well for him. He has however 410 gears. I'm trying to get him to let me make a ocuple of passes on them since I have 373 gears as that is the question I'm sure many of us would like answered.

Hi Mike. Hey, where did you get yours at? My MT ET Streets are about shot and I'll need to be replacing them fairly soon. The only thing holding me back is that they're 1.5" narrower than the ET Streets...
