When to start mods (long)

HI all

Just got my new True Blue 02 the last Monday of Jan. and this truck is truly amazing

I have yet to go through my 1st tank of gas yet, the weather is kinda of bad up here in Michigan so the new L stays in and I drive my winter ride (99 dak R/T) lol not really winter ride just rather have a few weeks left on lease and would rather have a fender bender in it then the L

Here are my questions?

When should I start the mods??
Im looking at doing a chip, a air intake, new exhaust of some sorts and most likely a pulley.

All of these mods are based on what I have read here on this site

Does anyone here know of a good shop in the Detroit, Michigan area to work on these trucks or am I better to do the work myself

I am very good with tools, but new to cars due to fact i have always leased and never had to work on them other then ot helpo buddies.

Thanks for the help

Welcome aboard matey!:D
I'd wait for a few thou on the clock before tinkering. Put it thru a couple oil changes at least.

Jamie, don't forget about the 2 major cruises in the area this year. (Downriver and Woodward Dream) See Miloc forum for more on Downriver. Thread is entitled: "I know it's a bit early, but....."

not to sound too pissy!

Be careful with your mods. and consult your dealer first!
I thought I developed a prob. at 15k with only an intake, chip and exhaust mod.
the dealer refused my claim! because of the mods!
It turned out that I only needed plugs, but all future visits will result in denials of claim on the powertrain because of them!
I am not happy with Ford!
I would check with your dealer or find one that will overlook mods. just in case you have an unusual prob. because once they look at your L they will not touch it under warranty!
Thats just my 2cents worth!

Hey Jamie where from in Sterling Heights. I am at 17 and Hayes. There are quite a few of L's around our area. If you ever need help with a mod I should be able to help......I do everything myself......even if it takes a few 12 packs to finish ;)

P.S.......wanna hook me up with a watch :p

I have an 01 L which is a daily driver--1/4 mile racer with 20,600 miles on it. I installed my first mods(chip, pulley, and filter) at 2,800 miles--and haven't quit yet. Next week, my Magnaflow cat-back exhaust will be installed. Have a ball;t and get some synthetic oil in there soon(my RP went in at 4,000 miles--my L has not seen the dealer since I picked it up).

Rolexguru,
I'd say it's time to start modding as soon as you're ready to pay for repairs out of your own pocket. Chips and pulleys are a GREAT way to void the warranty on your brand new 30k truck. If you can afford that, more power to you. Just don't be coming on here later whining about how bad Ford is because your mods screwed up the truck, like alot of people do.

Thinking about autorama

Hey guys

Im thinking of crusin down to the autorama i know a bunch of my buddies from the dakota r/t club will be there

i may go depends on the weather

not sure if i will drive the L would rather have the dakota down there just in case

Jamie

I will be there on Sunday. I would go on Saturday but me and lightning Jeff got some stuff to do ;)

On Sunday at autorama at 9:00 is one of the coolest parts because all of the cars leave and it is very cool to hear some of the real bad *** cars going by as the cam is just a lumpin. Well I might see ya there. Hunter

Sunday JL installed a chip and 4lb lower for me lol, miles, 2 days around town and a couple hours to bowling green

i am now at close to 10k, so far so good
