What's Up

Just wanted to say hi to all my old Lightning friends!!! I see a lot of you are still around and getting the trucks to really scream. Cool!!! Nothing better than seeing a pickup truck beat the pants off Camaros, Vettes and yes Mustangs!! That's what I miss most about not having mine anymore. It's amazing how much attention you get when a stock looking pickup with slicks runs some high elevens. Anybody want to trade for a 11.00 sec. '67 coupe? ha ha

At least my best friend bought a '95 not more than a month after I sold mine. I still get to ride around in one from time to time.

If anybody's interested, I've put a 393 with AFR 185's and a Victor Jr in my 67 with a 4 speed. It's a blast at the track. My truck with the stock convertor left pretty soft at the track. It took a little getting used to dumping the clutch at 5 grand. First time scared the crap out of me. Never thought it would be that violent!

Anyway just wanted to stop by!!! Take care all!!

PS: Any tips on Cal-Trac adjustment and setup?

I'll help you with the Cal-Tracs as soon as I figure them out. If I was you, I'd put them both touching the leaf and then move them both about 1/4 turn tension. Run it and go up about 1/4 turn each time until you get some good times. The most important thing I figuredout was to make sure to "zero out" both of them to where they just touch the leaf springs before adjusting them. You may want to do some more on the right to get it to launch straight.

Right now I have them both set with 1 turn of preload. Last time at the track I had the bar in the middle hole for two passes and put it in the top hole for the last pass. I video taped the last pass and it is really hitting the tires hard. So much that it appears that after the initial hit it is then unloading and spinning. Maybe I should have tried moving the bar to the lowest hole. It is my understanding that raising the bar hits the tires harder and the lower the bar the less of a hit. Is that correct? I'm going to also add a set of adjustable shocks to the back end. Hopefully it will give me a little more adjusment or just confuse the hell out of me, ha ha!!! Anyway thanks for your help.

Hey James! Welcome back to the show.

Any chance you've put the Mustang on the Dyno? I'd love (for obvious reasons) to know what kind of power that combo makes!

I kinda miss those Saturday morning phone calls with your latest and greatest accomplishment...

No not yet Jeff, I've been trying to sort out the suspension first. I built the motor pretty much the same as the infamous MM&FF FMS 393/AFR 185 except for the cam. Went with a solid lift 248/252 @ .050 with .550 lift on a 108 centerline. Should be close to 500, wouldn't you think.
