well don't that beat all(long, really long)
EDIT: Ok so I started typeing and couldn't shut up. Some of it might be entertaining, some of it might be the next power stroke intercooler.
I blew a head gasket. I think that the head gasket might also have been what I thought was a knock comeing from the valve train. I should have been onto it from the start of the knock, cause the same damn thing happened last time(odd knock then kablewie). It started pushing coolant into the over flow so I replaced the radiator cap, T-stat and retorqued the heads cause I had heard a leaking head gasket can cause this. It still did it, and the coolant over flow would smell of exhaust so I was sure my head gasket was about to let go all the way. Sure enough it did while I was driveing around the block. I knew it was comeing, no biggie. I pushed it home by myself cause I wasn't about to call a tow truck to tow me 2 blocks. Hell it got me started on my training for the worlds strogest man comps
. Anyway I'm takeing apart the top half of the engine now and I figure while I'm at it I'd like to stick a custom grind roller blower cam in there, get some heads, port my lower in my basement, get rid of the smog pump and emmisions stuff and contemplate axeing the AC. So I need some advice on what cam to get along with lifters, what heads to look into getting, and advice on takeing off the AC.
I pretty much want to go the GJLS route and turn up the boost on the stock short block. Theres no point in pulling the motor makeing a stroker or putting forged internals in since it's not broken now and I can have plenty of fun this way.
To more specificly restate what I need some advice on,
I want to figure out what to do for a roller blower cam, I have one of the '94 roller blocks. I also need to know what roller lifters to get and anything else I need to convert over. Has to be speed density frendly. I'm gonna tune it all by EEC tuner.
I'd like to hear sugjestions on what type of heads to look into getting. My uncle may have some trick flow twisted wedge heads that I can glom onto. I figure since I could get them kinda cheap from him, I might as well have them worked on some so I have consentric valve seats, good valve guide clearance and other things that trick flow rushes thru to get more heads out the door. I know some of you have reservations about trick flows, but I figure I won't have problems if I work out all the production bugs.
If I don't get those heads, what ones should I look into. I'd probly like to find a set of used aluminum heads and get them worked on. I figure it would be cheaper this way and just as good as getting them new from a production machine shop(foxlake ect) or buying new from the company then haveing them worked on.
Axeing the smog pump and emmisions. I've searched right before the old board went down and didn't find anything explaing exaclty what is entailed. I think it should be straight forward. Pull the air pump and the stuff attached to it, but I don't know that it will be.
Loseing the AC. I like haveing my windows open, haveing AC or not does not matter to me. The vent windows do a good enough job for me and when your sitting still thats when you don't want to have the AC on anyway. I figure if I don't care at all if I have it, and almost never use it but enough to keep it in working order. I can get rid of it and not look back. I've thought about how to get the serpetine belt to work. Obviously you can't just get a much shorter belt and not have some sort of extra pully, the belt would contact itself on the water pump pully on it's trip from the power steering pump to the alternator. Theres probly not a company that makes a braket to mount a supercharger and PS pump and not the AC. It looks as though it would be too complicated for me to custom make a braket for that. I have the vortech braket on there now and thats one hell of a hunk of cast alluminum. It would be dificult to duplicate that with aluminum stock. I could do it, but it would be extremely operation intesive to cut away all the aluminum from one large solid chunk, it's simply not feisable. Tomorow I'll compare my stock bracket and the vortech one and see if I can think of anything. As of now I think the easyest route would be to make a seperate add on bracket with a mustang liped idler pully in a location allowing compleat contact free operation of the serpetine belt.
Well after that backyard enginering feat, I'll have to figure out what stuff exactly to take off. I figure guys with mustangs take it off all the time, I should be able to use what they do as a road map for my crusade.
Then if I get really creative I'd like to make my own damn hood from a junked F150 hood. I just do not like the 4 hood options(cevinis cowl/ram air, USbody cowl/GT500) and I'd rather have the stock over any of those 4, but I would like something diffrent. With this one, my eyes may be bigger than my ablilitys but I'd sure as hell like to try it. Who knows, I might pull it off. I have a back round in machining mechanics auto body work and retail(wait WTF does that last one have anything to do with what I'm talking about?). I think that there is a mig welder sitting down in the basement. I'm makeing a mission of pulling that sucker out and practicing. Damn me for watching that jesse james chopper special on the discovery channel, I wouldn't have even thought about doing this if it wasn't for that. I know some good body men that could help me if I get close to pulling this off. I need to hit the junkyard anyway, I just happen to have some nice gauge sheet metal. I might need some more, but the hoods only gonna cost me like $30. Maybe I'll get two if I can find them. You can all call me crasy now, I won't contest it.
