Very disappointed with my dyno numbers today

But it runs like a raped ape though! I strapped my L on the dyno today after getting my PI torque converter and my tranny built with the level 10 rebuild kit. (A very reputable shop did the rebuild here in town) I put about 100 miles on the tranny and decided to get a baseline. I can post the graph later. The graph looked great and it made awesome torque but I think the hp is down about 20 rwhp. It did 373 SAE rwhp and 496 torque. Its never dynoed well, but my buddy said it liked to have come off the dyno when I punched it!

Here are my mods:
PSP flip chip
2001 filter kit
JL #3 lower blower pulley
Bassani high flow cat crossover pipes
Borla catback
PI 2400 stall
built 4R100
metco upper track links

There is no audilbe detonation. I autotapped it the other day and all seems well. These runs were done on the street side of this chip and I had VP octane booster in the tank.

My previous best 1/4 ET is the in sig, and this was before the high flow cats, and the PI converter and the built tranny. It feels much faster than before. However, this chip was not burnt for this new converter, tranny and shift kit.

I did a hammer pass before I dynoed. I heated up my nittos and punched it from 20, it kicked down, it hooked great and took off like gangbusters.

I think I need a custom dyno tune to get these numbers where they should. Do these numbers seem low to you all?

Sorry for the rant. ;)

I dynoed in third I think. Turned off the overdrive, ran it up to 50mph or so and kicked it down from 3000 the first time, and it kicked down into second, shifted into 3rd. Then turned off the overdrive and kicked it from 3500.

BTW, I had a few friends dyno and thier numbers were low too. Go figure?

I talked to Sal and he said the numbers seemed good for my mods. Some of the mods like the exhaust stuff wouldn't add much as I thought it would. But it sounds good. ;)

Dont fret...

From my experience with a Mustang Dynamometer, I wouldnt get too wrapped up in the numbers game. I was told by the crew at Lugo Performance that my truck makes 195 RWHP and then 2 nights later with Dennis Lugo at the track, I corked aff a 13.27 @101mph!! This just simply does not add up! I put the weight of my truck and the times into that horsepower calibrator and it said 340 RWHP. Which sounds more like it. Either way, I race at the track not on a dyno. :D

Well said. Sometimes its hard not to get caught up in dyno racing. The guy at the dyno said, hp is just a mathematical equation. It doesn't mean much, its torque that gets you down the track. And I have plenty of that on tap. lol I guess it really doesn't matter the truck will run better than my previous 12.72.

BTW, its not a mustang dyno, its dynojet.

I had a friend dyno his 95 Z28 with a 383 stroker and he dynoed at 377 rwhp at this dyno on motor. On the other dyno in Indiana, he pulled 393 rwhp. This is all SAE corrected too. This dyno seems to read lower than others, they all read different anyway.

Lightning Tim,

I'm not sure I understand this but I believe the Torque Converter may lower your hp readings on the Dyno, while you'll get much better et's. You may want to have your tuner reburn your Chip for the new Converter. Check with ****
and you will see more improvement with a reburn. Just my opinion, but I think
It is very important where (at what point) you have your converter set to lock up. What kind of Tires are you using at the track? If you have good Slicks, you may want lock up earlier.

Skewed numbers

We dynoed our Incon TT 86 GT (Look for us at Orlando) and it made 415RWHP but made over 570ftlbs of TQ at 3000-5200 where it finally went below 400ftlbs.. LOL BTW it runs 11.00's @ 123 and is 3665 w/Driver..

To clear a few things up, I did these runs on a Dynojet. This dynojet seems to read lower than the other dynojet in Indiana.

I talked to Sal and said that I didn't have to get the chip burnt for the converter, but I am thinking it would do some good to get a custom dyno tune.

I am going to do some more dyno runs somewhere else and get a valid A/F ratio and go to Beech Bend next Sunday.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Lightning Tim:

I dynojet-dynoed(SAE) my 01 Friday, and I was somewhat disappointed too. See my sig for mods and the dyno results from two different chips. I thought I would be at 405 and was hoping for 500 ft lbs. of torque.

But what was really disconcerting was the black 'spots' and smoke that was blown out of the tips and ended up all over the rear 1/4 panel. I mean, it was nasty! The A/F ratios on both chips were in the 11.2-11.3 range(in the upper rpm range)--IMHO, way too rich. Of course, the 160 'stat didn't help but this was after a 2 hour drive and only a 30 minute cool-down. The second run was done with a 15 minute cool-down. The PSP was done first and the JL, second and both were reburned with my mods in mind. I disconnected the battery before each pull.
