my stock valve springs are weak. im gonna upgrade them soon. i want to do this without taking the heads off. has anyone upgraded the springs on their stock heads? i need recommendations on what springs to get. any part#s and other info would be appreciated. i see that trick flow has a spring upgrade kit for the stock heads. i was considering this. i just want to be able to rev to 5500 under boost and not float the valves.:( thanks all for the info. paul d

Look in summit or jegs.Trick flow has a complete setup for them.Springs,keepers,retainers,etc..Its like 129.00 and is better than stock.

Paul,
I just went through all that with the GT-40X heads but the heads were on the bench. I was told by John Haskel(head porter) that you don't want to get too much seat pressure, and of course you don't want too little either or you will float. On my heads I had the Ford Motorsport springs which are rated at 110 lbs at the seat.
What we found was the springs were just installed and not shimmed up to spec. Some springs showed only 60lbs on the intakes which will spell big problems with any kind of rpm's. There are a few factors to consider like cam profile and lift as well as valve weight before buying your springs.
On mine 1.94,1.54: I went with 100lbs of seat pressure on the intakes and only 80lbs on the exhausts. This setup is on my stock cam but will work up to .500 lift as well. You get to much and you will comprimise longevity of the valve train components needlessly. Make sure you set them to spec, and just don't stick them on like a lot of folks do.
Later
Steve
