turbo

I have tried twice now to get info from Silver State via email and they never reply back to me. Is it better to call them? I would really like to see their stuff, but their website dosen't give much info.

Aftermarket guys don't = good businessmen. (Usually)

From reading various posts and their subsequent comments, I've noticed an overriding common theme amongst many of the various aftermarket performance companies out there: They are generally run by atrocious businessmen. There are, of course, exceptions, but it is unbelievable to me the number of people who are upset, disappointed, and frustrated by their business practices. Most of these guys have great products that generally create a fair amount of demand. They could do double or triple their business volume if they actually marketed their product and provided even adequate customer service. Take Kenne Bell for example. How many posts have their been on this board conveying utter disgust and frustration with their service? Hell, those guys don't even have a website and you have to pay five bucks for a catalogue. Get real, it's 2002, morons. Hell, a lot of these guys can engineer an entire intercooled turbo setup or a cold-air induction kit on a new vehicle in a matter of hours or days, but when it comes to selling and marketing it, they just plain suck. I guess I'm just ranting here, but either some of us that have some common business sense need to break into the trade, or some guys in the trade need to pull their head out of the ground. Go take a marketing class, gentlemen, or at least, answer the damn phone when someone calls...

And then their's Raymond B with the best customer service around:D Too bad the EEC tuner is the only thing we buy from him that works on our trucks. - Brian

Good timing on this post - Joe Cloutier and I spent today with Mike Arnett at Silver State Motorsports.

Short version (I'll post more tomorrow, including pictures, but I'm pretty beat right now) - There are about to be a LOT of options coming in terms of Gen 1 turbo kits. The order for fab work will be placed early next week.

Joe and I are helping Silver State offer everything from just tubing sets for total DIY types, to base kits which include generally the same stuff as a Vortech kit, to extreme kits which will offer all manner of intercooler options (which will also be able to be added to the base kit later), compressor options, tubing material options, etc. COMPLETE kits will provide everything from the air filter to the exhaust tip and include upgraded injectors, custom programming, etc.

BUT, since it's understood that many people don't NEED or WANT something that complete, there will be a lot of accomodation and a rather "ala carte" feel to the kits from Silver State.

Please understand that these plans are in their infancy, though the wheels are definitely rolling forward. Prices aren't set yet, but the goal is to be competitive with the supercharger kits that are on the market.

Also let me say that Mike Arnett is a real class act. Joe and I both walked away with that impression and both left him with a sizable chunk of change to help get the bill rolling on these kits. I hope to have a setup on my truck before the World Ford Challenge. The craftsmanship on the kits is absolutely flawless. Mike has degrees in Mechanical and Electrical engineering and that, along with a meticulous attention to detail, REALLY shows in some of his work (for instance, he's rewired a blown Dodge truck so that all of the emissions stuff is monitored and controlled by the stock OBD-II computer and a SEFI8LO runs the 50# injectors and dials the timing).

Guys, Mike's '94 truck, with speed density, Crane 2030 cam, ported stock heads, stock intake, and the turbo @ 8 psi was running 11.60s mph in the quarter in Las Vegas (about a half second worth of atmospheric pressure correction). This was with valve springs that were so weak that he could actually lift the valve off the seat with his hand. He couldn't rev the truck past 5K, nor could he run more than 8 lbs of boost without floating the valves.

Ok, maybe I won't post a lot more tomorrow, but I will DL the pictures off the digital camera and have them here for your viewing pleasure.
