Transmission is out.

Hey guys, I pulled the tranny out today and after it was out, I noticed the motor shakes quite a bit when you push on it. I know the transmission keeps it tight when it is in, but should I be able to shake the motor a lot with one hand even if the tranny is out? Maybe it's time for solid motor mounts? Has anyone had a problem with motor mounts before? Thanks for ant help.

strong aftermarket mounts would be nice, but it is normal for the engine to rock quite a bit while the trans is out.

Heck yeah, thats a lot of weight focused in two small areas. Stock mounts are rubber and they will move.

I've smoked two sets of stock motor mounts in 16,000 miles. Finally I found a aftermarket set of mounts that seem to be indestructable, you may want to check them out.

Those mounts look good I may have to get a set if my stockers don't hold up

Hey Budddie, I hope you got a jack or sumtin under the oil pan to hold the motor in place. When you take the tranny out there is no support for the back of the motor, so 1/3 of the support is gone now. If the motor moves around when the tranny is in, then look at changing your motor mounts. If you need more strenth then try a torque strap running from the front dr. side of the motor to the frame. Solid mounts tend to crack bell housings & tranny cases.
Remember that every chair has a least 3 legs for a reason.;)

Thanks guys, It just seemed too weak without the tranny support. Never had a problem once the motor is in, so I guess everything is how it should be. Thanks for your reply, Bud
