I'm gonna be doing alot of towing with the L this summer. My truck didn't come with the towing package. I'm looking for a good tranny cooler, any suggestions? What about the rad? Should I upgrade it, or leave it alone. I plan on buying E fans(Flexalite 220's). Anything else you guys would suggest? Thanks

It is my understanding that 93-95 L all came with trans cooler (I don't have the towing package, but I do have the stock trans cooler).

I upgraded my stock 1 row rad to an AutoZone 2 row (~$170).

What are you going to tow? I tow a 96 Cobra on an 18' steel trailer (wood floor, 4 axel electric brakes)). Don't even consider towing something like this without a weight distributing hitch (a MUST have IMHO). You should also consider a shift kit (I use a Banks Trans Command), and change your trans fluid to a full synthetic ((~ 17 quarts with a filter will run you about $100). Make sure your brakes are in good working order.

I gonna tow my splash, it only weighs about 2900lbs wet. Looking for a trailer, its gonna be all aluminum. What kinda hitch are you running? I want to run a Hidden Hitch because I have a roll pan, Class 3, 5? If you don't mind me asking how much was your shift kit? Easy to install? What kind of tranny fluid are you runnin?

Thanks

Where Y'at Shinoda, Mystic is going to think I'm knuts but I tow a 65 Mustang (3000lb) on a utility trailer w/o a specail hitch, tranny cooler, only 1 row rad, no syn. fluid & No Brakes. YES, Yes I should have brakes on the trailer but so far(9 yrs) I haven't had a problem towing with my truck. I'd like to have a 2 row rad but haven't over heated with the 1 row. And I do change the tranny fluid often.
The biggest thing people over look towing is tunge weight. My car hits the same spot all the time (marked on the trailer) and it tows great. I think everyone should load up & do a short tow on a hot day before going on a long trip. That will tell you what you need.

1 more question, what tranny cooler would you guys recomend? I looked and i have a tranny cooler, dunno if they all came with one? I'd like to upgrade for peice of mind.

If you want an Aluminum Traler, be prepared to shell out about $6,000 - I woiuld love one, but that is just over the top for me. I use a 18' tiilt-bed with a tire rack mounted on the front. And Abby Normal is right about toung weight, the only way to do it right is to go to the scales to determine how much you have, but with a WDH, you can make up for a LOT of sins of towing. On the Hitch, you can not go wrong with a (WDH) weight distrubuting hitch - period. For towing it is just simply the best investment you can make. I use a Class 3 hitch and as for the Banks, I put it on in 1998 and it cost a bundle - but they have come down in price a lot.

I use Permacool products (get them through Sumitt Racing) on the Mystic and L

Abby Normal - towing a 65 Mustang with a traler that does not have brakes....... now I know how you got your screen name :) Shame on you..... safety first.
