Nothing on the internet is ever free. Websites stay up by either funding from users, funding from select vendors, or mass advertising (pop-up ads, pop-under ads "Click here you just won $1,000,000!")

I would much rather prefer the first two

Sell select advertising to offset the cost. That's what I did on my vb board, and within 1 year, I now have over 75% of my yearly expenses covered by long-term advertising agreements, all without charging a penny to the users.

Tried Delphi?

I know I'm new here...and an R/T owner, but we have an EXCELLENT format over at Delphi. If no one has checked it out, the url is forums.delphiforums.com/dakotart/messages

No probs with pics in sigs, and you can post attachments without any problems.

I think it would make a great host for the Lightning page...it's free too. Anyone can be a host too.

Plain and simply put, this site won't be even a fraction as informative and "entertaining" if you ban 80% of the readership. Think about it.

I think the main problem here is money. You can have faster servers that can handle all the volume, but you have to be able to pay for it. And what's the best way to generate income off of a site that has 2700 registered users? ADVERTISING. Other sites, i.e. The Corral and F150 Online make it work. We can too.

There is no way in the world that I'm gonna to approve of a members only board,so it's not even an issue.

Dwight is concerned that the complaints that he gets from people who are disappointed with the speed of the board.I understand both sides of the issue,and the truth be known were doing alot of things that the members are only beginning to see.

As you know money is the solution to most problems,and were making every penny count. Yes we could follow suit but to be quite honest I'd rather have a board that is a friendly place to post, ask questions, and not get flamed at every juncture in the road. Maybe were trying to keep it to clean and under control, but if that's a problem, well then so be it.

I have had the opportunity to take on sponsors,but in all fairness to our vendors it would undercut them and I just won't do that.The vendors we have are very knowledgable with respect to our vehicles,and we have to let them have first shot at our business.....

So the bottom line is...the board will remain open for all,members, or not.
That is my promise to all the members of the NLOC(of which I'm very proud) and all our visitors!!!! So stay the course, don't get excited,but we are accepting memberships if your friends wanna join,
