The beginning of an education..... or an obsession?

After learning that my Lightning currently has regular truck heads on it, (still investigating on that b.t.w.)

I decided enough is enough, and I sat down at howstuffworks.com with a friend who knows how engines work and sat there drilling question after question at him about these things, all the time watching that animated picture of an SOHC engine until I finally have the "basic" jist of it. I can identify most parts now and tell the function of most, and I must say, the basic operation is not very complicated, reminds me of a giant air pump.

I am glad I found that I DO enjoy these things, just watching how they work is amazing. This is especially good to find out after taking a leap of faith and signing up for Wyotech which starts in the fall.;t

I am posting this here because countless guys on here have helped me and continue to help me, all the while continuing to have patience with an 18 yr. old who's first automotive adventure is just starting, and it's all thanks to the Gen 1 Lightning board plus a couple of friends along the way. :)

Just a little happy and wanted to share it. Sure you guys have felt the same once or twice. Tell me, what do ya think???????? :)

The road begins. :)

Good luck on your future in the automotive business! I'm going into the industry as well, just in a different field. I'm in my second year at Northwood University and I'm majoring in Automotive Marketing and Management, and I've now decided to get my minor in the Automotive Aftermarket. - Brian

Go for it Devin! It takes some people half thier life to find out what makes them happy, and it seems you have already found it so don't let it go! Good Luck!

That's because it IS an air pump (though not a particularly big one in the greater scheme of things)! Everything about making power is all about more airflow. Fuel and timing are easy. Airflow is the real killer because at takes 15 times as much air mass as fuel mass and air is so much less dense.

there is actually a degree in automotive aftermarket.... hah I could probably be teaching that by now. Gotta check and see if my local school has that program, may give me an excuse to finally go back and get my degree. BTW Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of lightnings.

Thanks for the kind words and support guys, I hope I've found the road I want to walk down, and thsoe are some amazing stats FMOS.

Yeah, there is a degree in the automotive aftermarket! It's much more than just performance parts too, rent-a-car business, remanufacturing business, etc... It's a pretty huge market. I'll be starting those classes next year and I'm looking forward to it, although I'll probably already know a lot of it:) I don't think it is offered at many Universities other that Northwood.

Northwood has campuses in Midland, MI (where I'm at), West Palm Beach Florida, and around Dallas Texas. I think Michigan is the best one to go to for automotive stuff since we're fairly close to the Auto makers.
