Carpe Cerevisi !!!
Gentlemen,

The Situation: 13 grand to spend.

The Options:

1994-1995 Lightning plus mods. 10-11 for truck plus light mods.

Pros: Hey, its a Lightning, bought and paid for.
Cons: not sure of previous abuse.

OR

13 large down on a 2001 Lightning. (roughly half)

Pros::D :eek: ;)
Cons: again the previous owner, 320.00 payment, will definately get the itch for the "chip, filter, pulley"mantra

Can you Guys offer any advice?

Well if you are still undecided you could always give the money to me :D.

I'd get a GEN 1 and mod it. With that kind of cash it shouldn't be too hard to find one. Wish I had $13000 to spend:eek: .

With $13k, you can easily pick up a nice Gen1, and add enough mods to smoke many Gen2s. Your truck will be paid for, no payments, it'll be more unique and rarer than the 50,000 Gen2s out there :), and they just look better :) As many horror stories I hear about Gen2s, IMO I would go with the tried and true 351.

I was in your shoes about 10 months ago except about 500.00 less to spend and I was thinking about the samething.I went for the Gen 1 and threw some mods on it and now it will put just a big of a smile on your face as a Gen2.With the best part being its paid for. Then again it would be nice to have a warrenty and that new truck smell.I guess its what ever floats your boat ,but as long as you buy a Lightning Gen 1 or Gen2 you will be happy.:D

Buy a high mileage L in the neighborhood of $7000 then buy a used stang for $4000 or so and still have $2000 for a blower.

One breaks, drive the other til it's fixed.

Simple;)

95,

I've already got the Saleen, and an F-150. The only stipulations for an early L are: under 90,000 miles, and white in color( to match said Saleen)

I do like the blower idea....;)

The hell with the truck! You could do the smart thing and invest that money! It's not everyday you come across that kinda cash...at least for those of us that abide by the law.

You wouldn't by any chance be a....STOCKBROKER would you?:)

I have a few investments, and my 401k is doing well. I have been saving for this kind of purchase since I registered in July.

I would not be doing this unless I could afford to do so.

For the record, other than an average of 1 speeding ticket every 4 years,( I'm due ), I am pretty much Johnny Whitebread.;)

$13k  Why less than 90k? Buy a good high mileage L1 ($6-7k) Heads, cam, rebuildkit w/ forged pistons, machine work ($2-3k) exahaust, EEC tuner, blower ($3-4k) Ranchos, bushings, electric fans, K&N, Powerstroke intercooler, drag tires ($1-1.5K) Level 10 tranny w/ convertor ($2.5k)

6+2+3+1=$12k leaves a grand for cosmetic repairs/maintance

7+3+4+1.5+2.5=$18k $5k to finance over two years w/ todays low interest rates

Can we say 12 second truck & owing less than $5k :D

Just think of all those unsuspecting ricers that get handed their a$$ by a 7-8yr old truck
