Tailgate up/down - best aero? Answer

Interesting. But I think it had been settled here (for drag racing purposes only) that it really made no difference. Now for the long haul (gas mileage) that's VERY interesting.

Thanks GS......

for the link. I read it and it confirms what I/we thought. My question is whether the elimination of the 30-40(?) lbs of tailgate weight would offset the 'drag' problem when running down the 1/4 mile??? Anybody know ? In pics of the tuner's trucks while racin', they all(?) seem to have the t/g removed???

Just for info purposes, i ran one week with no bed cover or tailgate.

next week, i not only added a tailgate, but a fiberglass cap and still ran faster times!

Hey beefcake, The difference could have been in what you had to eat before each run :Y

I have ran my L with and with out the tailgate. I have found it knocked a 1/10 of a second of the time. With the tailgate, I ran a 13.5 and without it I ran a 13.4. This is all bone stock too. :tu:

I don't need no stinking tailgate:D or anything else i can strip off, anyone know where i can find a plexiglass rear window replacement;)
