Switch Key

HI TOOK ME A WHILE TO FIND THE NEW PAGE THANKS TO LIGHT 1 HE TOLD WHERE LOOK FOR IT

I need some help on replacing the switch key. I belive i read on here once that you put to the on position remove plastic cover and you would find a pin that you push up and then you pull the switch out, take the old switch to fords or nappa and get replacement if this is correct please let me know.
if it incorrect please let me know thanks for any help..

You're right about the switch in the "on" postion and the pin to release it...but, according to my '94 FSM, you have to remove the steering wheel to get to the pin.

HTH, let us know how it goes.

You have it correct, but you don't have to remove the plastic cover. There is a hole in the cover that will let you access the pin on the lock cylinder. If you can't find the pin through the hole you can remove the plastic and see the pin, but you shouldn't have to. I recommend getting the new cylinder rekeyed to match your old one. Just take your old key and new lock to a locksmith and they will have no problems. If you don't rekey it you will have to use two keys on yor truck.

Looking further, Shawn is correct...the hole is under the lock cylinder.

I don't know why that section on how to do it on earlier trucks is in the book:mad:

I just replaced mine. Local auto parts store charged me $14 for the new lock with 2 keys. Now I am using 2 keys, but i am going to take it and have it rekeyed. Easy swap. The only thing i did different was to disconnect the neg batt term.

Where Y'at LLindsey, You don't need to pull the steering wheel. If the key turns but doesn't start that can be the switch. If thats the case you can change the switch without changing you key. Mine needed a torks bit to remove the assy. I'm not sure if you can get by with an allen wrench or not.

I got that changed in my old 92. I didn't do the work but the people that did bought the kit from Ford and they gave me the switch and the two pieces for the doors to and of course new keys. good luck Alex

Go to a different parts store. You should be able to buy the aftermarket part for around 15.00. If you are going to spend 40.00, get one from the dealer. thats what they quoted me. The guy at the ford parts counter said he could even make it work with my old key.

As far as replacing the part.... All you need to do is turn the key to the on position, push the pin in the bottom of the cylinder and pull it out. I did it in the parking lot. there is nothing to it.

I am going to take the aftemarket part that i installed and have it rekeyed to match my original door key at a locksmith when I have the time. But until then....i have two keys. No big deal.
