SVTOA Meeting

Hokay...Glad to see everything is up-n-running here!

We need to start some feedback / discussion about what everyone wants out of SVTOA.

Boris had promised Vern and myself he would get with us asap and start a dialog, but so far he's MIA...

...so let's dive in and start w/out him.

I don't know, but from what I've been hearing SVTOA is pretty focused on the SCCA type stuff, which is cool for some, but not really my cup of tea! Unless they are going to have some DR events I doubt I'll join!

But, are they going to have a event here locally, I guess it would be at HPT, kind of like they did in Oklahoma where they had car shows, Drag Racing, and road coarse stuff????

I'm also bummed that I couldn't go to any of the meetings! I have to work until 12:00 on sats, but if they ever have a meeting other wise, I'd try and go to see what its all about!

Later guys

I agree with Shane, I think this SVTOA thing is pointing towards SCCA stuff. But I did hear Boris say something about needing someone to be the cordinator for drag racing events. From what I got out of the meeting they are all into that. Which is fine but I know myself as well as others, we're all into drag racing. We need to find someone to be the cordinator for the drag racing events. It might have to be 2 people together as not alot of us have a whole lot of time. But I think this SVTOA chapter is going to be fun as well.

Just my .02 worth.

Boris said they needed a Drag Race Coordinator, and Shawn volunteered; we know Shawn can set up one hellva drag racing event <g>.

This local group is in its infancy, so I think we can get whatever types of event(s) we want (majority rules). We have to keep attending the meetings until things get going.

The emphasis on opentrack was from the buddies of Boris. He had promised to email Vern and I, but haven't heard a peep out of him as of yet.

Might even be able to schedule dyno days, etc...stuff like that. I wouldn't give up on anything yet; w/SVTOA behind us we have the possibility to get some things done we most likely can't on our own.

Ok, I've found my way back. I'm going to be diplomatic here - I think everybody's right!

Boris and his buddies are scca and open-track oriented. That's all well and good, but this is a SVTOA group, not SCCA. That would be fun, but I can't do that all the time. But, we can drag race just about every weekend.

And Roger is right - we need to keep letting them know that we're part of the group and we're not leaving! Damnit, we wanna drag race!

I also told Boris that if he needs something for the newsletter, I'd send him a Drag Racing Primer for people just starting out. I've got it just about ready to go. We also need to send him info on the WFC - I'm sure a lot of those guys would join us there - it's just too much fun being around a bunch of Ford Gearheads. I'll call WFC and see if I can get them to send me some info that can be passed on at the meetings.

Game On!

Hi Shane. Feb 23rd (4th Sat in Feb) was the last I heard. I think most of the folks in attendace last time would like to do/try both drag and road events. They were definately not your average bunch of owners <g>, and that's a good thing.

It doesn't matter what Boris or any one person for that matter does or doesn't like--numbers rule in a membership environment. Like it or not events under an SVTOA (and dealership) banner will get normally get more of a turnout; bigger payouts and freebies, etc., than a grassroots type event.

Everyone knows what my preferences are, but I also like the drags a few times a year and would attend some if they were available, if for nothing else the comraderie we all have. I'll do whatever I can to help get drag racing on the venue; but I'm just one voice, just like everyone else.

One thing I have to say about our MKLO group here; everyone gets along, which is really great when you can get that many people together without any strained attitudes (temporary doesn't really count; even couples have arguments <g>). I think we could give the local chapter of SVTOA a good jump start; that's all I'm thinking about. I'm not sure if any of the annual dues gets refunded into local chapters, but that would be something to ask next meeting because that would be a good start towards an event (maybe rent the strip for a 'test-n-tune'?)

Shawn (and anyone else), if you need any help with organizing anything, let us know!

Roger and everyone else, I plan on finding out for sure if the offer still stands from Boris about having me head up the drag events. If it does I will take care of my Lightning bothers and sisters:D

roger i think alot on the drags depends on the status of kci. i won't travel to topeka for drags. now road course is different. I am 40 miles from mokan so i will drag race with thr joplin boys if kci is closed. I would like to see a big svtoa club in kc area.

Hi T.J. That's too bad, cause HPT is a much better track, not to mention the road course/autocross option.

BTW, over in the autocross section of the board here I've posted the 2002 autocross schedule for the kc area. there are 4 events at Arrowhead (3 in June!) and 3-4 at HPT. You may want to put those on your calendar.

I would drive up to 10 hours for a good drag event on a good track, but you would have trouble getting me to drive an hour to auto cross! Its just a matter of opinion, besides, I think it harder on your vehicle to on track or auto cross than drag racing! :( maybe it would be different if I had a vehicle that handled good! LOL :D

Different strokes for different folks. It's nice we have the choices available to us. Besides, I distinctly remember a big SEG on your face when I took you for a ride last season <g>

I don't know if I agree on which is harder--I've seen a lot more stuff break at the dragstrip than at any autocross. In fact I can't remember the last time I was at the strip and someone didn't blow up something and oil down the track.

It looks like there's going to be a really big SVTOA event in Indy later this year. I'm trying to get details now, but it will be a 2 day event. Drags, opentrack, and auto-x.

Hey..turn the white one into a corner carver...that way you've got all the bases covered <g>...

I'd go for that!! I would make it stick like glue, but no one even makes tires to start with?? So that really sucks!

Shane, what size are you looking for? The stickiest are Hoosier, Kuhmo, and BFG (not necessarily in that order). All make a autocross/roadrace tire thats pretty sticky. I just bought another set for my truck 275x40ZR18 for $95.00 each (www.tirerack.com).
