SVT Contour vs GP GTP

FMOS Racing

PSI=:-D
Not Lightning related...

I tangled with a GTP last night and expected to get my butt kicked, but lo and behold the little SVT held the Pontiac at bay. I had him by a half car (his bumper at my rear door) from 30 to about 75 and he punched it first. I let off and let him go because that was getting too fast for the road we were on (divided 4-lane with a median, but a moderately populated area - 50 mph limit).

I thought I was going to get another shot at a light that turned red, but he turned right. :(

I think I'm going to take the buzzer to the track Wednesday night and see what she'll do.

Jeff, I think I read that Vortech has a kit out for the Contour.
Wouldnt that be something?

GET THEEEEEEEEEEEEEE be-HIND ME SAAAATAN!

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope ;)

Jeff,

You can't put a Vortech on that Contour yet. First, you need a Powerdyne, then a KB, then a Vortech, then a rebuild, then nitrous, then change you mind about nitrous, then a Procharger, then change your mind about the Procharger, and finally a Turbo.

Well, as a former '99 GP GTP owner I can tell you that GTP may look very fast, but it has disappointed me many times. One time a Ford ZX2 was able to beat me in my GTP! That totally pissed me off. Modified or not a cheap ZX2 should never be able to beat a car like GTP, but it did. GTP has a nice launch but absolutely no midrange power! Once you get to around 30mph in that car, you won't get any decent acceleration at all.

Many cars like to harrass GTP's because I think GTP's look faster than they really are. L2 seems like the exact opposite. :D

I do think that this car has the sweetest looking front end, but the fog lights are way much brighter than the normal lights and many drivers will flash high beams at you when you use your fogs. Headlights can't be used by themselves because they are too weak.

Rear seatbelts are retarded and will not allow any adjustment once you put them on.

My GTP developed a nasty break squeek and that was the last drop in the cup of my patience. That's why I drive an L2 now.

The only things I truly miss are the Heads Up Display (Corvettes have them too), steering wheel mounted radio controls, and sunroof. Awesome features. Well, climate control is nice too, but gets confused often.

Good Kill!!

In regards to the GTP/Regals - the normally aspirated 3800 is capable of 205bhp roughly.

Supercharged 3.8's only go to 240bhp - very low HP gain.

I believe the engines are capable of much more BUT the transmission can't handle excessive torque/HP..
Maybe they will introuce a stronger trans snce the Fbodies are gone..

SLP makes an upgraded trans / transaxle for the GTP w/ different gearing, heavy duty clutches, etc. Pretty expensive mod tho. With pullies, exhaust and cold-air, GTPs are running in the hi 13s. What are the SVT Contours doing?

Oh Kevin, that is hitting way below the belt, but I like it!:tu:
But OK, lets start with a powerdyne fabup,OK? Jeff, Jeff, you there? huh?

I see Satan has brothers... :p

I think the car would self destruct with that kind of power. Honestly, in my opinion, the transaxle is pure garbage. I can't believe Ford put such a POS in what is supposed to be a performance car. You'd think they would have learned with the SHO.

But hey, if you guys want to start a "Fund Jeff's Madness" account, I'll take donations. ;)

Johnny: I don't have any clue on modified cars. I've seen stock ones run 15.30s and worse. I'm not going near the Contour user groups because I really don't need another money pit. :D

The biggest bang for the buck on the SVT Contour is installing the Taurus 3.0L engine. It adds 60lb-ft and 65HP to an otherwise stock Contour. I think these shortblocks run about $800. There are several on the Contour.org site running 14.0s or so on the 3.0 and easy mid 13s on a 75 shot.
Also with the Vortechs they run in the 13s. One guy has fabbed up a turbo for his and it works really well. He is also running in the 13s I believe. There isnt much room under the hood for added on power adders. The bigger engine is both stealthy and effective.

This whole thread is hilarious!!! :p

But the real question is: What is coming after the turbo???

I've got a dollar that says it'll be an all-aluminum big-block with twin turbos!!! You know Ford put E4ODs behind big blocks, so that end of it is easy... ;)

Later,

LOL!!

You know you could get the 3.2L out of the automatic Taurus and run a Vortech S-Trim on that..... Jeff??? HEY JEFF!!!
