surge at idle

I've been experiencing a bad surge at idle on my 93, bad enough that she'll sometimes die in gear at a stop or at least make the truck lunge as the converter hooks/slips.

I dropped her off at the local dealer (hey, I don't have the time right now...) and they found that the idle air solinoid was defunked and they suspected a vacume leak from the smog mess at the back of the engine (it's all disconnected on my truck since I currently have long tubes)

When they couldn't fix it in one day like they had originally thought, I had to leave it with them for over a week while I was out of town. I expected to pick it up Monday when I get back, but they just called to tell me they still can't find the vacume leak and don't know what's causing it...although it is now "much better".

Any suggestions on this one? I gave 'em hell since they've had it over a week for a one-day job and they at least offered me a car while they continue to play with it but I'm starting to get scared that they will just throw parts at it until my bank account gives in. I'm out of town so much I won't have a chance to mess with it myself, so I'm hoping I can at least make some suggestions to them.

After years of having cars that litereally had NO dealers to support them I thought this one would be easy! My last L never got more than regular oil and filter changes in the driveway...this one is anything but!:(
