first of all. im new on here so whats up everyone. i drive a 93 lightning that ran a 14.8 this last weekend. i am thinking about getting a charger for my truck towards the end of the summer. could you guys please give me some advice on which ones are good. i saw one from vortech for like 3600 dollars and its only 6 psi. i want to get a roots type or maybe a screw. im lookin to get one that has atleast 8 psi. could someone please help me out here. also i am a member on pastreetracing.org. its almost the same thing as this site with the message board. check it out. let me know whats up.

Welcome to the board! Kenne Bell would be the one you want. There's a few L owners here running them. Very good superchargers. Run a search on Kenne Bell on the forum and see if some of the past discussions will answer your questions. If not, I'm sure someone will chime in to help out. I've heard nothing but good things about the blower but pretty much bad things about their customer service.

If you want to be different and make more HP, there will be a turbo kit for the Gen1 truck avalible in a month or so.

Hey, that's me! I've got the Kenne Bell. I like it, it's not the all out fastest at the drag strip, but its fun on the street:tu: As far as price goes, they are a little pricey at around $3600 for the kit. The kit will come with a 6 and 8 lb. pulley, to add boost you just need to change pulleys! The problem is, getting it not to detonate. Right now I'm pulling 7lbs (it was 8lbs before I opened up the exhaust) and I have to pull a lot of timing to get it not to detonate. Hope this helps and throw out any more questions you want me to try and answer. - Brian

Welcome to the board first of all. Just keep your eyes peeled on this site everyday because their is a ton of info, pros and cons, stories, and recommendations from many of these guys with blowers, turbos, and NOS (and every other part that you could imagine).

I'm a proud new Powerdyne owner but I haven't had a chance to run it yet because I've been waiting 3 and half weeks for my guage pod from Jegs but anyway, this is great board and there is tons of collective knowledge here!

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!:tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:

93whitelightning- wat kind of vortech are u running. i saw the one they had for the lightning i think it was a v2 trim. also it was only 6 psi and i hav a march pulley set for it. would that add a little more boost or would i hav to change the blower pully.
brian- the kenne bell system? i hav custom exhaust on my truck. i am running the stock headers and cats but i took my muffler off so i could get a dual side exhaust. otherwise i couldnt of gotten the exhuast to come out b4 the wheel. but anyway would this affect anything like back pressure. would this reduce boost?

I'm running an older V-1, but the V-2's are just as good if not better! The amount of boost is understated! I "think" the kits come with a 2.87" blower pulley,..........mine is a 2.65"

Trust me,..........this is my second supercharger on this truck,...........You can't go wrong with a Vortech!

Boost is just how much pressure is being packed into the engine. More boost does not necessarily equal more horsepower. Even though I'm pulling 7lbs now with my exhaust opened up, it still has more power than when I had 8lbs. with full stock exhaust. If I wanted it back up to 8 I could just order a new pulley ($50), but right now I have to trade off timing for boost because of detonation (which I'm working on fixing). But you also have to remember that I have 7lbs. from 2000rpm to however high I want to rev it. Whereas the centrifugal kits will go progressively with rpms. The disadvantage of this is its hard to get that much traction on the street. You will be better off having your custom exhaust. - Brian

Kenne Bell ROCKS.
Alll the blowers out here need to be dialed in to run well. The K/B is easy to install and leaves you with plenty of room to the injectors valve covers and looks hella cool.I have a 6# pully but see 8# with my set up. Later Alex

I've heard the KB are good. I want to get one for our 95. We have the Powerdyne on the 93 and it works good for what we do. CRUIZE. Look for races with unsuspecting camaros or stangs or whatever. But I like the roots type my sis's car has one from the factory and it makes good boost and makes that T-Bird FLY. Well thats my 2 cents.
CHARGERS ARE GREAT
:tu:

with the kenne bell what are the horsepower gains on average and also wat bout torque. could you give me the web site too.

I am looking for info on roots style blowers as well for the 93. I have a s-1 in the closet but i really want a direct displacement unit. Does B&M or anyone else sell units besides bell?

Turbos are nice, but id rather be blown.

Sean

Kenne Bell is good for 100 horses and 100 pounds of torque.More depending on boost.there web site sucks, send for there catalog, it costs five bucks.Later Alex

Kenne-Bell doesn't have a good website, if you can even call it that. There are a couple unofficial K/B websites, such as www.kenne-bell.com ( I believe). I've found the most info on www.corral.net , where the mustang guys have been using them. I'm guessing its more like 80 horse and 120 ft-lb. torque. - Brian

Here's a dyno comparison of a KB vs Novi at the same boost level and on the same car.....you decide but the only thing I'd use a KB for is a boat anchor

and here's a link with the guys thoughts on it

In defense of the K/B in that thread, the guy was using the 1500 supercharger instead of the 2200, which wasn't available for those cobras. I still think the Novi may have a little more overall power, but not as much of a difference as shown in that dyno comparison. It also depends on your overall goal, if you want to run low 11's or 10's, I don't think the Kenne-Bell is the one for you. Ken Woodward showed us that the 1500 k/b can put the lightning in the 12.5's in higher elevation, which probably would have been low 12's at sea level. Muddman got the 2200 blowzilla, so I'd like to see how he gets that going. I still think the k/b is great for the street and looks nice under the hood. - Brian

ok, pardon me for a sec...but i need to straighten my ruffled feathers. :o

im glad the centrifugal works good for you, but it isnt always the best choice for every particular application. allow me to quote from the very article in which you referenced...I would have said the KB has no use. But after driving the Novi with it's more "violent" power band only in high rpm's, I can see the need for something like the KB for most street-only enthusiasts

i for one, dont like to have to wind my truck out to 6800 in order to make the power.

c'mon man, that was just kinda bastardly...
