As a representative from the 454SS Club (www.454ss.com) we would like to invite your club to join us for the second annual Sport Truck Shootout. Seeing that the Sport Truck Shootout in 2001 was a great success we are putting together a 2002 Sport Truck Shootout. It will be held Aug 3/02 at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green Kentucky. We have many members signed up so far and this is developing into a large event. We will have trophies and dash plaques available. As well we will be holding a Show & Shine portion for those entered in the event. The price is $20 for you and your truck if you pre-register at www.sporttruckshootout.com. We would like for your club to join in on the fun, and would like permission to post your club logo and link it to the Shootout page. We have many convoys of trucks getting together to drive from all over the US and you can join up with others for the trip. For more information please visit the official website for the Shootout www.sporttruckshootout.com. We hope to hear from a club representative soon.

Thanks,
Ldytec

I'm the only one signed up? I don't know if I can hold off all those Chevy guys on my own.

A little? How does a 150 hp shot sound? With some pulley action also!

SyTy

I found the guy with the syty you were talking about. His name is jimmy. I sent him an email so maybe we can all get together.
Graeme

He has/had 2 syclones. I smoked him at the track last summer. Maybe he wants some revenge! HaHa. j/k
(we never raced side by side but he did a 8.3 to my 7.99) He had better take that Sy up to McCoys and have it worked on. Spend a cool $20K like every other sy owner that wants to go fast.

Look on syty.net and search by screen name: Jimmy. You can see his mods. It says he has some mccoys goodies on there.
Graeme

Okay, I was confused. Jimmy is the red Ty(looks mint) in Clarksville I saw near the Jack in the box, He had the McCoy sticker. The other guy(can't remember his name) was real nice and he had the two syclones in Hopkinsville. He is the one I met at the track. badas1.

They plan on getting us this year! Little do they know. The only way they will get me on the track is because I don't have a cage.

Lurking....

I've been lurking here for a year. My 01 L will be a year old next month. Getting close to MOD time with 3800 on the speedo. I don't think I really WANT a 10 second L as I drive it on the street and it occassionally scares me silly in 99.9% stock mode....

I would like to add a chip - probably a 2 way with one side pretty much a "bypass" or only slightly better than stock and the other side being fairly agressive for street use.

Question - Do I

1) go to Bowling Green in stock form to get a good baseline on the truck, or
2) do I put the chip in before I go, or do I
3) do it (put in the chip) THERE between runs. I have to say that option 3 appeals to me, but I am NOT a mechanic by any form or definition.

Flame away if you like, but it's a legit question from a legit owner.

BTW, Ldytec, that was an EXCEPTIONALLY polite, mature posting and I am very pleased to see it. I've lurked around on a lot of boards, and the flame wars are pretty sickening....

Now, if I can just talk the wife into going and taking the camera....

Ghostrider where are you from? I go for number 3 I will even help you put in the chip. You will want to have a good base line. Your wife can hang out with mine.
Graeme

Ghostrider, It is all for fun. You do what you feel comfortable with. All the chips are basically the same. With the stock air box, 3lb lower pulley and factory tech valve body you should be doing some great times. Probably low 13's in the 95+ degree heat. If you are from the Nashville area be careful if you take your truck in for service. I know two dealers who have voided engine warranties and the other SVT dealer in town was made responsible for the theft of my stereo equipment only after a law suit...

Hi....

I'm down in Nashville, lived in the "teaming metropolis" :D :D of Guthrie for 3 years and commuted..... (Finally just gave up and moved.:)

Glad for any assistance I can get. (Be warned, we are OLD FOLKS. Don't get me wrong, I like young and old folks, but some young people don't like us gray hairs.:D )

Did you hear that Delk Performance (down by the new NASCAR track) is going to have a Dino/Dyno (can't spell for anything) day in March. I have "heard" it's going to be 3 pulls for $50 - $75....:p Just thought you might like to know....

Thank you for the welcome......

Ghostrider,
It is all about the trucks!!! We love to go fast. Would love to help you out. Drop me a email with your info. Easterisland and I have been talking about getting a lightning group together.

The performance garage in Nashville does it for $75. Where in Nashville are you located? I'm I-24 and Harding rd. If you think you want a chip I can loan you one to try out. I have a flip JDM, a JL diablo, a race JL diablo and an auto logic from Sal (it is for a 99 though).

Warranty.....

easterisland - thank you for the info. I've followed your tribulations in silence (since I have nothing worthwhile to add) and I can feel your pain. I, indeed, bought my L from one of the aforementioned dealers who SELLs chips and pullies and will install them for you. BUT, they flat told me they will warrant the parts they sell, but will void your warranty if you come in for warranty service on the truck after they install the mods:mad: I think it takes a lot of guts for a service writer to tell you something like that to your face. You'd be surprised what you can learn by acting stupid... ;) (Heck, who's acting:D )

The .01% (ok, it's an estimate) that's not currently stock is a K&N cone filter.... They raised their eyebrows but said it was "ok" IF that's all I did to it.... Brassy, eh?

I don't think I'll go further than a chip till I run this one out of warranty, then I'm thinking of having someone I trust (read NOT a Ford dealer) to do a major rebuild of the engine/tranny. After that???? who knows.....

Wow!!!

You guys post fast!!! (Maybe I just think slow???)

Easterisland - fire me a mail at medicisdad@yahoo.com and I'll fill you in.

MidsouthBolt - Very interesting - I just had a similiar conversation with a friend of mine just the other day. However, we were talking about not just limiting the get togethers to Ls. I'll shoot you a mail in a few minutes.....
