Speed Density

What is a cheaper way performance wise, than Mass Air? I hear some of you talking of a EEC tuner. Please help!

There's quite a few alternatives..

1: EEC-Tuner
2:Chip
3: DIY Mass Air Conversion

Chip is definantly the easiest out of the three..It basically requires nothing of you, just slap it in and go.. But sometimes when you change something you'll have to get a reburn.

An EEC-Tuner is basically a DIY chip..You make the calibration, and you can constantly tinker with it. There's alot of other things hiding in the PCM that you can change too..

DIY Mass Air is probably the hardest because it requires adding on wiring, or rewiring the engine harness, and buying a new PCM from ford...If you interested, talk to Kevin(thundrn_lightning), or email me..

I would like to convert to mass air in the near future. How much does it cost and what all do you have to do? Thanks.

From a cost standpoint:
$100-150 for a chip, but you'll have to have it reburned after you make any mods ($50-75 for a reburn)

EEC Tuner for around $400, but you never have to pay another dime to retune for any mods you make.

Mass air for $1000-$1200

I don't own any, but I would get an EEC tuner.

THX for the info. Ok, im sorta hooked on the tuner. Any significant gains right of the bat with the tuner...just progresses with mods/reprogramming...i assume.

Go to the Performance Specialties forum on the board and Raymond (the EEC tuner expert) will hook you up!!!

Really if you have any wiring/electrical experience you can convert to mass air.. It's not "CHEAP" but it's doable under a grand.. You'll need a new PCM(from ford), a mass air meter, and a eec-tuner or chip. It's not the easiest thing to do, you'll want to be comfortable around automotive wiring...

But once you convert to mass air there's a whole new world open to you..

With the Tuner you CAN switch to alot bigger cam, but you'll still want something somewhat Speed Density friendly, but once you convert to mass air with a tuner, the sky's the limit.. Until you run into the situation with need low impedance injectors(arround 800-1000HP)
