shift kit

Hey guys, is the B&M shift kit from Summit for $29.95 any good? I'm on a budget here so I really need to know. Or would the trans-go kit be better for $99?

Steve

I've never installed or heard mush on the B&M but you know how the saying goe "You get what you............."

I like my Level 10 shift kit.

I've also used a Trans go in a Dodge and got the same results as the Level 10 just a lot more work and a lot more parts used than in the Level 20.

I put in the $60 B&M kit and I'm not really happy with it. I put in the red springs (street/strip) and took them back out the next day. Shifted like crap. Way too hard!!! I put in the green ones and I am happier, but I shoulda gotta Trans-Go or Level 10. I almost took the whole thing back out and went back to stock. Definitely get what you pay for...

Go to www.levelten.com

The transgo kit was fine but the kit for the Dodge at the time was fairly new and I had to use their tech line for some questions. They were a little odd. I ended up answering my own question.

Anyway, I have heard on this board great things about about level 10 and Pat who offers good tech support.

I have the Level Ten shift kit in mine. And I like the way it shifts. It is also very easy to install. :)

Ditto on the level ten being easy to install. What I like about the level ten kit is that at part throttle it does not shift that hard, but at full throttle it will bark the tires on the one\two shift.

Spend your money on the Level 10, don't waste it on anything else. If you were to take a survey, there are a lot of Gen1 Lightning owners running the Level 10 shift kit. It's awesome! Nice, smooth, almost stock stock shifts at partial throttle, but at WOT, hang the heck on! The shifts are awesome!

I have the trans go kit and did it myself in a couple hours. It even includes a video on how to do the install. I have had it in for about 13,000 miles and no problems, nice firm shifts and spinage between 1-2 shift on 3/4 to full throtle

Just wanted to ask your opinions.

My truck does not have a shift kit in it, but it will spin the tires HARD on the 1-2 shift, and sometimes a tiny peep on the 3-4. )once in a blue moon.)

The previos owner claimed he put a "Stage 2 Hypertech chip" in the truck, yet Hypertech according to their site does not have a stage two chip.

How could the truck be shifting that hard? I started to check the computer today, but I couldn't find it. I looked around the parking brake and whatnot.

It doesn't have a shift kit, could a chip be making it shift so hard?

Oh yeah, and all I have is couple small mods, but the truck has been doing this since I got it stock.

Somebody help me here, it's weird not knowing what's going on, lol. :-) Thanks. :-)

Well that's just it man, I don't know "exactly" where the computer is, and am not sure what the chip would even look like.
Don't know what I would have to do to get to it either,

The parking brake assembly is held on by three 13 or 14mm nuts. Remove those, swing the assembly out of the way, and voila, you'll see the computer. The chip will be facing the rear of the vehicle. I can't remember if there was enough room to yank the chip or not without removing the computer.

Hope that helps.

You can also take it out by removing the first six screws out of the drivers wheel well starting with the one by the drivers door and moving up. There's also a bolt inside the wheel well by the shock that you remove. You'll see the computer in the bottom driverside part of the firewall, one bolt holds the wire connector in and two hold the computer in. The chip will plugged in to the opposite side from end you plug the wiring into. Don't forget to disconnect the battery when doing this.:tu:

Hey Mark, I have an L1 with the typical bolt-ons,pulleys elec. fan etc... with 101k.Just typical maintenance on the tranny and still shifting fine. What is your opinion on adding the shift kit or should I be thinking about a rebuild?I think I added all the relevent info. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Ron

Shift kit

With proper care & maintenence and normal wear you should be fine. My original Gen1 L is still very close ( owned now by a buddy). It has 135K. Still no problems. Just normal maintenence. When you are ready for a rebuild the shift kit will already be there. So I say until then enjoy!
