Shaved Calipers and Light Wheels

Jim
I'm gonna need a set of shaved calipers,so will give you a call on those. Also where can I find a reasonably priced 15" wheel to use for drag slicks????I wanna stay with the 3:73's and just go to a drag tire , don't think the M.T. et streets are gonna do the trick anymore,Any ideas?
Jerry
Like to go to a 12" wide tire
Talk to ya in the morning
:D

Jerry,

Maybe Jim would like to join in this discussion. I am still thinking with the power you are making you would be better with the 29" Radial Slick, even with the 3.73s. If you decide to go with Nitrous later in the Summer a 27" tire will be too small for sure. The wide bias ply will take away from your time.

You can try out my 28" Slicks once you get set up for the 15" wheels and see how you like them. We can use Jakes' road on a nice day before race season.

Sounds like a plan!!!!! I'll get the calipers when we meet Lightning Bob on the 2nd make sure he knows to bring them to Hooters.Say I saw you on the expressway today by Farm and Fleet, you pulled out of block Bustersbusters...Then caught uo with me quickly!!!!Very quickly.I ran the L uo to 120 today,I have about 500 miles on it.I think I got a bit of bad gas I think I heard some pinging , not sure rthe new engine really roars,I'll know for sure when I try the race program!!!!
Take Care , Get Healthy!!!! We miss having you and Nanct with us at our meetings...

Jerry, not to start any flames on here but just some info on your tire dilemma. I've ran both M/T ET Streets and ET Drags on my Ranger. There is barely any noticeable difference between the 2. The main reason I switched from Streets to Drags was at the time there was a big gap in sizes on the Streets and the 29.5x11.5 slicks fit better. There have been numerous tests and articles on the M/T ET Streets vs. both slicks and drag radials. Every one I've read says what I say...very marginal loss in 60'times on the Streets vs. Drags and no contest between the Streets vs. Drag Radials. The drag radials are starting to catch up some in 60' comparisons and I hear they drive better and last longer though. You may want to check more closely on the Nitto drag radials. Call Paul @ Paul's High Perfomance and he can give you the low-down on them...he tunes Jerry Green's Lightning, aka "Casper". 517-764-7661. They got the first set of 18" Nitto's last year and I think they worked good for them.

One other tidbit...In NMRA racing, Nitto is paying contingency on fornt tires and rear drag radials (their 555 I think). Hoosier has commited on their slicks. M/T isn't paying for any tires in any classes this year. Every little bit helps.

Randy
Thanks for the tip,it always helps to get some advice from someone who has tried both different tires.Just trying to get all the bugs worked out before the season begins.Man I hope I don't run into that Ranger too often!!!!!
Take Care

Jim and Jerry,

If Jer runs 29.5 inch tires, He will need a 4.10 rearend...won't he??

Just food for thought....I am waiting for jerrys 3.73 take-offs;)

Jim, are you and Nancy coming on the 2nd?? We miss you at the meetings

...Dwight...:D

Big D,

I am not sure. Jerry, next time you get that Beast upto 115/120 take a look at what your rpms are at 3rd at that speed on your 28.6s..(You are planning at least 115 through the traps ?)

Hope to make it on the 2nd. If not, maybe you and Jerry can bring some tires back for me?

Jim

Jim
When I roll thru the traps on my 26" tires I'm under 5000 rpms so am assuming with the larger tires I would be at about 4500 rpms, maybe slightly higher.I still like the idea of a wide 26" tire like about 12 inches, and having it be a drag slick...I'll get the calipers done first then experiment.
Jerry:D

Nah, just my same old daily driver with a new coat of Candy Red, just like before:D

well...maybe one or two insignificant changes;)

Jerry,

It was good talking to you today.
Calipers are no problem and the wheels are in stock.
I strongly recommend 29.5 radial slicks.
I garrenty you will pick up 1 10th if not more.
When I ran ET drags, tire pressure between 14 and 16 PSI.
The side walls would rinckle so much there was alot of wasted time on the starting line.
With the radials CO7 compound. I run 22 LBS. of pressure.
Very little rinckle, I went with a much taller tire 29.5 vs ET 28 inch.
and picked up in my 60ft. to the best of a 1.50.

Not bad for a hay hauler

Hope this helps Jer.

Thanks for the info.I'll send out a set of calipers.I also want a set of the wheels you mentioned, and do you have the tires as well? I might as well get it all in one shot!!! So consider this an order.Oh also send me another xl t shirt for my son they are really nice and great quality....ok back to the truck, are you sure the 3:73's will handle the tires ok and will get me going faster....also do I need a chip reburn, probably noy right? As of now my best 60' is a 1.67 so if I can hang in that range that's great, I just know the tires won't hold the truck.

After 600 easy break in miles I finally hammered it,I got traction when the truck hit the 2-3 shift,"in the street program".I gotta get some good gas and flip that little switch:eek:

Seriously it's like driving another truck, smooth and fast,I think I'll do ok this year and Dwight and I are coming to Orlando in March, just a nice change of pace....Be there with spare parts:D .You know my history!!!!

Thanks for all the help,oh by the way what width are the slicks?? just curious,I know you'll get me headed down the right road and I really APPRECIATE it !
Jerry;)
Looking for 11's but livin with 12's(low ones)

Jerry,

I will mount the tires on the rims for you and ship them back with the calipers.
Trust me on the 373's leave them in.
The say 10.5 on the tire but they are actually 11.

Why don't you stop by here on your way to Orlando and I will install your headers, tune the truck and dyno it.

Jim@JDM

Will send another shirt out Monday

JIm
Perfect!!! That sound like a winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll see if I can swing by on my way to Flordia....How far is is from your shop to Orlando??? I figure it to be about 1000 miles from here to your shop:D No big deal, the more I drive the beast the more I love it!!!!:p Talk to you on monday and thanks again. Say what about the chip will it be ok as is or wait to reburn til I get there and dyno it???? Your call...
Take care, hope that new dyno is up and running, you had a busy week:D
Talk to you soon
Jerry;)
