Seen these ?

Kinda makes me want to keep mine stock. I noticed a lot of those that were blowing were '01s. Either many of the '01 owners over over-doing it or the '01s have real problems.

Off the wall but here goes............

IMO, the 01s have a lower pain threshold than the 99/00 models do. I don't know if this is because the CPU has different parameters than the 99/00s or the tuners are still trying to figure things out or they are getting too aggressive with the A/F margins or..............? Anybody checked out the egos on some of these tuners. They don't give a rats a$$ about protecting your truck. All they want is to be known for producing the fastest Lightning and if that means going over the line every once in a while, then so what. The owner can always go back to Ford and whine about their warranty being voided, right?

I'm comfortable with where Go_rila is right now (45,000+ miles), but I have not raced since FFW in October. A driveshaft loop and a set of Truk Traks to support the rear axle are in order before I take it to the track this year. Maybe I'll just turn him out to stud. :D

I remember when 12s were pretty good, but now it barely raises eyebrows (at least in the Lightning community). So does it surprise me that motors are blowing? No. Does it surprise me that 01 owners are sacrificing their vehicles until some tuners figure the thing out? Yes, very much. And to tell you the truth, it surprises me even more that these same owners continue to post and feel sorry for themselves when they have a list of mods that will choke a horse........on a practically new truck no less.

Tom - I would hang in there on the stock thing. I have really enjoyed going the mod route, but we all race brackets so it doesn't amount to a hill of beans who has the fastest truck now does it?

Yes, it's kinda spooky to read about L.'s with blown motors, but....How many members are on the F150 online L. board, and what percentage of those folks push their trucks pretty hard, either by tuning or by driving habits, and we're seeing what, 7 blown motors? That's really a pretty insignificant percentage, unless it's your truck.

Tom, you can't go wrong staying stock. Dennis makes a good point about the bracket racing, and it's still one of the highest performance vehicles you can buy.

Everyone has their tolerance level. I was greedy enough to really want a chip, but conservative enough to ask for a burn that was something less than full throttle. Time will tell if any of us has made the right choices. I'm at 43,000 miles, and keeping my fingers crossed, since I plan on getting 150K out of this truck.

Go Fast

Al said is soo true. I would definately stay moderate....or put some 4340 H-Beam rods in it and spray it 150 shot! It still boggles me that theres cast components and Hyp....pistons in the bottom end.
