With all of the remote control lock things for sale on the board, I've began to wonder how to tell if my truck came with this option. How do I tell?

If I recall correctly, the only options on the Gen 1's is the tubular rear bumper, sliding rear window and the CD player. I can't recall ever seeing RKE as an available option or standard feature.

Yes it is an option. The brain for the keyless entry/antitheft alarm is up under the dash kinda behind and to the right of the dash gauge cluster. You can probably see it from looking up under the dash or you can for sure take the gauge cluster loose and push it to the side and see the control module for the system. I believe you can give the Ford dealer your VIN and they can tell you every option that your truck came with.

Whenever you have the truck shut off and the driver's side door open does the red "Theft" light, just to the left of the steering wheel, blink on and off? If so you've got the factory alarm and keyless entry. When ever you arm the system the "Theft" light stays lit untill you disarm it. I've never had a problem with my keyless entry but my alarm doesn't always work.

Guys, my question is: If your truck does not have this option what do you have to do to make your truck keyless? I have read on here that some guys have remotes with programming instructions for sale. Is a special remote all you have to have or is there something else that you have to add to the trruck?

You have to have the computer brain deal that mounts under the dash that controls the keyless system. You could always buy an aftermarket system and install it on your L. They run around $100 for an aftermarket one. I'm not sure if you can get a factory one from Ford or not. I'd say you could.

Check some local salvages for f-150s with this option. You should be able to locate a factory door lock module and security module somewhere. Keep your eyes opened for someone parting out an L. I found both modules. Just waiting on them to arrive so I can install them. If you need the part numbers let me know and i will be happy to send them to you.

I have N.O.S. Ford remote keyless entry system that has ignition disable and a valet switch. This for 1988 thru 1996, if some wants to make me a reasonable offer. Say around $75.00
It comes with 2 remotes.
