rear main seal leaking

Hey , The rear main seal in my truck was leaking so i took it to the local ford dealer and they replaced it. After about two weeks it is now leaking again. I went back to them and they say they cant understand why it is still leaking. they say a crank bearing on the end might be wore causing the seal to leak. The truck only has 29000 on it and is in excellent condition. They said they will re do the job free on Monday. What does every body think. Is this just an excuse from a poor job or is this possible? Also could the new seal be defective that they just installed? Thanks!!

My truck developed an appetite for rear main seals. It is possible that they rolled the lip of the seal when they were re-installing the tranny. My dealership replaced three of mine under warranty and they said it does happen. Finally after the third one they replaced they decided that the truck had a problem causing it to develop leaks. Their tech support people told them that some of our trucks develop end play in the crankshaft and this can cause the seals to wear out prematurely. Mine would eat a seal inside of a thousand miles. They yanked the motor out and replaced the crank, Rod bearings and main bearings. I sprang for a new oil pump, water pump, timing chain and gears. I've had it back together for several months and knock on wood it hasn't started leaking again. I would let them replace it and if it happens again have them investigate further and tell them what happened to mine. I can provide you phone numbers, copies, what ever you may need if they need to talk to someone else about it.
