Rear End Oil

85-140W SYNTHETIC ONLY
ALSO ADD THE FRICTION MODIFIER
THE FILL IN THE BACK OF THE HOUSING THERE IS NO DRAIN PLUG ONLY FILL PLUG

You drain it by removing the cover or even just loosening it most of the way. You then refill it thru the fill hole/plug on the top part of the differential kinda right above the pinion and to the driver's side. Yes fill it up to the hole. And like svthauln said don't forget the friction modifier.

Probably was a lil premature, but I replaced mine @ 55K. Like everyone suggests, use the friction modifier ( don't get the shit on you or anything you value). The filler nut (3/8) was seized; breaker and cheater bar come in handy.

Redline makes a synthetic w/ the friction modifier already in it. I think it's about $8 or $9 a quart from Summit. I'll look up the part no. if you need it. I think you need about 3+ quarts.

Hey, if you want to make it easier to fill, take the speed sensor out of the top of the differential (one 1/2" bolt) and fill it from there until you see it come out of the fill hole. You can hold the bottle straight from up top and get it to come out quicker. We all know how fast gear oil likes to come out of the bottle. Plus you can check up on the sensor and clean the metal shavings off it at the same time.

You'll probably have to buy it through Summit or Jegs, unless you can find a high performance shop around. Most local auto stores won't carry it. If you go thru Ford it will be about $20 a quart.

:DJust to add a desenting view here.
I use the Redline 75-90W and only 2 quarts.
I called Joe Amato from Downs Ford when I purchased my rear girdle. He said you don't need to fill to the filler hole, 2 quarts are plenty and highly recommended the above weight of oil. Been running it almost 2 years now and with many hits down the 1/4.
The rear end loves this stuff, quiet as the day I bought it.If you get even a little too much fluid in these rears they tend to make more heat, just my .02. :D

Actually, it is 75W-140. I use the Richmond Gear stuff from Summit for $9.95/quart. It already has the modifier in it. 3 quarts will take care of it.
