Rear disk brake conversion?

I was just wondering if anyone make a rear disk brake conversion for our trucks. I was looking through an older FMS catalog and they were listing M-2300-G for 8.8 in Truck Axle Housing. The kit has 11" rotors. Does anyone know if this will fit or what kind on vehicles these parts were from in case someone wanted to score these parts in the junkyard?

The bolt pattern is for a Crown Vic. In fact they are the same brakes. I don't know if there is enough room on the rotor to have them drilled for the correct bolt pattern. :w

Rear Disc

Get with Ruslow. He has NASCAR/Winston Cup stuff on his but I'm pretty sure he has some lower end stuff in mind.

there was a post on the old board about a cheap rear disk conv. it was from a company in colorado and it used cadillac calipers without the calipers the kit was like 400 dollars. I wish we could search the old stuff to find it but maybe someone will know the info

Thats kind of what I was thinking that because we have an 8.8 there should be some kind of way to use existing rear disk brake parts for some kind of conversion.

Considering the cost vs benefits I really don't think its worth it unless you road race or tow alot. There's not much weight over the rear and from what some people have experianced from faulty ABS the rear locks up pretty easy anyhow. As far as the street the only thing you would really notice is a better pedal feel. Bigger front brakes is money well spent.

Technically, I agree. I just think that disk brakes all around are cool and if a conversion could be done using stock ford parts for around 400 or so, I would be interested.

I understand were your coming from. I still have drums on the back of the stang and thank god you can't tell with the 93 cobra rims. :b The only thing that I can think that would be a problem is finding rotors. 97 up won't work because of the different lug pattern and I don't remember any ford trucks before 97 that had rear disks that weren't 6 lug. The rest of the stuff could be sourced out from a stang or any number of vehicles (of course it would take some fabbing up).

I bet you could use the brackets from north cobra along with some mustang calipers, then you could get some cobra vented rotors and possibly have them redrilled? I have thought about this for a while. Almost wanting to go to the 97+ bolt pattern to utilize the 99 wheels.

I bet the rear axles are a tad bit longer on the 97's. More then likely that wouldn't work because the caliper wouldn't fit the standard length axles.

dont know if this helps but we converted a friends 88 gt to 5 lug all the way around and then used the explorer disc kit and works fine with a slight mod for the e-brake. While this may be useless for our trucks it does work as a slightly less painfull alternative than say Baer on the mustangs

I called all the brake conversion companies a year or so ago and found out the the rear axle of the L is specific to the L and was told that there was not enough demand to develope one:(

I thought some people had a group buy on a rear disk conversion on the last board ???? They were sending in parts to a southern CA shop. Or am I confused??? 6 pistin calipers in the front and 3 on the rear????

I think I remember that....I think it was on the new board...not to long ago. Seems like it was outrageously priced even with the GP.

Well I knew something was going on I just wasn't to sure for what trucks :w well at least a remembered something. Sorry I couldn't help :(
