I just bought a set of Ranchos and I was wondering if I can leave on the factory traction bars or do I take them off? Any other tips on installing the Ranchos would be great! Thanks, Jeff
Jeff, leave the stock stuff on, it doubles as an overload!
Make sure yo install your ranchos on a relatively level surface. The install is very easy, follow the directions the quality of the Rancho kit it tip top.
Also if you plan on lowering your truck in the rear, I would suggest to lower it first then put the bars on, just my .02

You ran a 14.66@93 with heads, what 60' was that with? I'm just wondering cause I ran a 14.703@92or93 with a 2.001 and all I have is exhaust 40series tires and bumped timing. Sorry off topic, just wondering.
I have the ranchos also. Make sure you have some nice sharp drill bits, and have means to get the truck off the ground high enough so you can drill the bottom holes. A corded drill with alot of torque will work way way better than a cordless. You might have to do some modifying to get the bracket on the passenger side were the exhaust hanger bolts go thru the frame rail. Thats all I can think of.
Jeff: Something is wayy off with those times. With a 2.1-2.2 sec 60ft time on the stock firestone tires my truck went 14.5@93 Mph.
The top end speed is the same and that is a good indicator of the HP the truck is making.
My mods at that time were:
Timing @ 14*
Headers/X pipe with no cats/Dynomax mufflers.
K&N panel filter
180* T stat
That was it. If you have aluminum heads and a cam your truck should be in the 13's for sure. Look at HOT ROD"S combo.
If you don't allready have a shift kit, convertor, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, short belt and the above mods you shold get them as you will really liven up the truck.
Dave, I dont have a conveter but I do have every thing else. I plan is to buy about a 2500-2800 stall. The truck is a little doggy coming put of the hole. What fuel pressure should I be runing? I'm running about 38lbs at idle.
What are the specs of that Trick flow stage 1 cam? Is it a cam that uses the 5.0 firing order? If so, alot of these 5.0 cams I see are geared for stang 5-spds(like the Ford E cam) and they KILL our Ls off the line. In my opinion!! Good Luck!!
The specs on the stage 1 cam .499/.510 lift 221/225 duration lobe seperation is 112. the rpm range is 1500-5500. I'm thinking about advancing the cam 2-4 degrees to bring back some low end.
Hey Jeff You should try the stall before you mess with the cam. We can play with the timing a little, We might want to pull the covers and check the valve lash. Have you checked it since we put that turtle together. It helped mine. I will be putting in my shift kit on saturday and getting that posi in real soon. well catch you later. Or should I say catch me if you can. HAHAHA!!!
