It could be as simple as the rear speedo sensor which is about $12, all the way to needing a rearend rebuild. The clutches in the stock Trac-loc have ears that tend to break off and cause lots of damage in there. They end up nicking the exciter ring, which will cause the speedo to jump around. Only real way to find out is to take off the cover and inspect everything.
