Quaker State??

Local 10 min Oil Change shop had Quaker State onhand.
Never gave much thought before with the other cars..
Today I realized the odo is at 3600miles - 2nd oil change.
1st was at 500miles.

Had 6qts of 5w-20 put in.
Is this good oil for 3000miles?
Is it equal or better than the factory 5w-20?
Should I use 10w-30 instead?

Truck will only be driven if it's dry(no salt or snow or rain)..

When is it ok to use synthetic?

Why not just go to Walmart and get an oil pan, motorcraft filter and Mobil 1. You'll get the best and it only cost a little under $20 for the oil and filter.

Lesson learned - I'm going to drain it ASAP & use Castrol or some other descent brand..

The weather will be descent Sunday..

Is 10w-30 preferred over 5w-20?

sj Lightning, I have used Castrol GTX for years. With out a problem. Although I am probably going to switch to synthetic when I hit 10,000 miles. To see if I can get rid of that rattle in the engine every one thinks is piston slap. Bob.

I love Castrol GTX, for some reason I switched to Penzoil, cant remeber why................

My dad was telling me something about buying oil not refined in Illinois, should by like pennsylvania oil??? anyone ever heard anything like this???

just curious

Not sure if it is the oil or the additives, Pennzoil and Quaker State leave a heavy ash like residue in the oil return galleys. Just my experience with engine rebuilds. Not sure if the oil led to the rebuild, don't hink it would help though. Just my .02.

YOU ALL WANT TO KNOW WHAT REALLY HURT friday night??

After the oil change I went home & the L sat for 5 hours or so.
When I cranked it up that night - hmmm...

Ever so slight tapping when the engine was cold.
I wouldn't say knock but it was obvious if you listened.
It may have been lifters but I couldn't tell.
I didn't ever notice this with the factory oil.

When the truck warms up no problem..
It will be nice Monday - I'll see how it sounds in the morning.
Didn't here anything today.

Tuesday- I'll just take my time & put in Castrol & a new oil filter.

Hopefully I can save someone else time & money..

Lesson learned...

Just got done - took my time - 30mins ..
Just had to take caution and use the floor jack to get the L on the ramps. Didn't want to crack the front spoiler..

Put in Motorcraft filter & 6qts of Castrol 5w-30..

No noises so far..

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE..
