I got in from a 1500 mile round trip just a little while ago. It's the first significant miles in one lump I've put on the truck since building the 393 and also the first trip since the valvetrain problems I've had (three head swaps in 9 weeks). I drove down to Arizona to pick up another car and towed it back.

The truck ran beautifully and best of all it got over 15 mpg on the way down and 14.0 (dead on) on the way back towing a car!! I don't think that's too shabby for a 393 stroker with 4.10 gears. :)

I used the EEC-Tuner to throw some towing parameters at it (little less spark, higher part-throttle shift points, torque converter always locked up in 3rd and OD) and it really did an awesome job.

Just wanted to share that - I'm pretty stoked. It's the best I've felt about my pickup in two years. :D

Jeff,

Crongrats those are some great figures, sounds like she drove like a champ....... how many miles you have?? Oh and what car did you pick up :)

Way to go Jeff! I know that makes you feel alot better after a drive like that with no problems. Great mileage for your combo too. Especially because you FYOS haha:cool:

Total mileage on the motor is about 4000 now. I used to always drive my truck everywhere (to the tune of 20K miles a year), and was even interviewed on the '99 WFC video because of it. It's good to be getting my confidence back in it.

This was the first time the engine has been subjected to long-term harmonics (cruise set at 70 mph for hours). I knew it could handle the power, but the longest drive I'd taken with the new motor prior to this was going to Hot August Nights in Reno (about 4 hours away).

I went to get another Probe GT. This one has been rolled but has a lot of performance goodies (including a J-spec 200 hp KLZE motor) that I wanted and I was able to buy the whole car for considerably less than just the motor would have cost. Now I have a bunch of spares should I break things. :)

Oooooooooooooooooooooooo nice motor hehehe :) probies are a fun lil car....

Dang Jeff, I don't think I have the mind set to drive that nice to even think about getting that kind of mileage out of my truck! Congrates! :D

Hey Jeff, This is Craig with the lowered black lightning (baton rouge) I have been out of the loop for some time. How is your truck since the 393. It sounds like you have had some issues. Do you regret the 393. Do you think that a smaller (377) would have been better. I ask because I have been thinking about this same engine. Thanks Talk to you later.

Craig
