Guys what kind of power can the rear of the GEN1s take?Im going to replace the diff with a eaton. But what about the 31s or the axle tubes?Ive also got a Trick flow cover on the rear.
Would it take say mid 10s or better? What do you guys suggest? Thanks.

I think I remember JDM saying his truck went 10.60's with a stock rear !!!

Dunno, mine's gonna have just a girdle until I scatter it :)

I'm with Raymond on this one Marcus. The rear end of my truck is one part that has never really given me any problems. I have the SVO girdle on it and Amsoil synthetic fluid in it. I keep the girdle bolts torques down to the proper setting and thats really about it. And thats the way I intend to leave it until it starts giving me any trouble.
Goodluck with your project, Edward Huerta/Struckby

marcus if your planning on a 9 sec truck then i wouldnt go with the eaton. its a great, durable rear but not 9 sec durable. youll be rebuilding it 3 times a season. no clutch setup will last long with that kind of hoesepower. i would look into a locker of some sort.

I think Jason Brown uses the stock rear end!! :D Straight down to the factory Traction-lok...But I fried my traction lok, so I must be makin more power than Jason!!

I would run a spool... What would be cool, is run a 9" and have a LSD(he said LSD woohoo!) in one carrier, and a spool in another one, and then you could run different gearing and such at the track!

Comone Marcus you know ya wanna spend the big bucks and step up to a REAL rear end.

I'm with Ray, I'll run the stock rear until it scatters. With the upgraded carrier it's a really tough rear.

I'm going to run on drag radials too, so hopefully it'll give on the ground instead of in the gears.

Marcus,
If you are going to put a new rear in the truck and you did not buy the eaton yet. I would look into a Torsons. It is a worm drive tipe. Very strong and durable. And I think it would be better for your setup.

Thanks for the replys guys.Guess it stays as is for now.
I think Jason was using the stock 8.8 but thats when he was running 9.0s and Im pretty sure it wasnt the stock Diff.Later.

So if you turn slowly around a corner and the back end does a wiggle and shake does one consider a good case for replacing the carrier or do you go until it scatters?

well marcus's intent is to drag the truck. do not get a torsen. though it is a strong rear, the worm gear mechanism they use is not designed to withstand extreme shock such as that endured during a hard launch of a 9 sec truck. it will fail. the torsen is designed best for road course racing. its purpose is a smooth transition of torque to both wheels. without going to a spool your best bet is either a detroit locker which i strongly recommend, or an arb air locker. i love my detroit and cant say enough good about it.:D the 8.8 is a very strong rear when coupled with a stout carrier, cap studs and a girdle. also i recommend welding the seams where the tubes go into the center section. it will make the whole assy more rigid.

Like the Punisher said,Weld the tubes to the center section. And if you want to run 10s you should have have 9 inch ends installed on your 8.8 with some good axles to get rid of the c-clips.
