Possible new stable mate for the Lightning

Hey guys. If you haven't had a chance check out the new edition of truck trend magazine. There is a big section on the 2002 Harley Davidson Edition Super Crew. It has Detuned Version of the Gen II Lighting engine in it. I've been wanting a new Lighting for a while now, but it just hasn't been something that I could sell the wife on because of the need for a vehicle that will carry more than two people comfortably. I showed her this one and she said make the call let's go look at it. Specs on the truck are 340 Horsepower and the detuning comes from a larger diameter Supercharger pulley and a smaller grill opening. A full Length exaust it supposed to take a little away as well. All these things are easily remedied. A chip, an aircleaner, a pulley and your right back at the 380 hp the lightning has. I've already called the dealer and my name is going to be on that list. If it is in the cards I'm going to have one. Production numbers are supposed to be limited to 12,000 units. This truck has the 20 inch iron all the way around and the most beautiful black leather interior you've ever seen! Oh, quarter mile times were noted at 14.6 seconds. Not bad for a four door truck. For those of you with families this is a possibility.

But doesnt it only come in that funky shade of gray this year? And isnt it supposed to cost upwards of $40,000? Dont get me wrong its a very nice truck and Im sure you'll love it! But I wish they would have stayed with the regular black color, and droped it down about 2 more inches. I saw it at the Detroit Auto show this year (didnt even have a Lightning there) and I did think it was nice.

From what I gather it was supposed to be available in black and another color. The MSRP was between 36k and 37k. Thats alot, but I'm thinking it will hold it's value pretty well.

Actually, they had a Lightning there for press week and then they took it out for the public, go figure! I worked there ;) - Brian

The less horsepower was described as a diffrent air intake on the new supercharged HD. I personally love the new color ( Dark shadow gray) and yes black will be an option. The price will be uper 30's and the interior will have flames down the center console. I just wish I could aford one.

I have the article in front of me now. It says that some loss in horsepower is from a smaller grill opening which flows less air to the intercooler. The rest is derived from a larger diameter pulley on the SC and a full length exaust rather than side exit. All that is remedied easily enough. The colors are black and shadow gray. Haven't heard from my dealer yet.

In reference to the two peice drive shaft. I think it would be weaker, but the reason they are doing it is because of vibration. The longer the wheel base the longer the shaft and the more succeptable it is to vibration from an out ouf balance or warped shaft. They have had problems with this in the past.

you'll have to tell us what is does in the 1/4 mile when you get it! But personally, Im keeping my 93 and probably ordering and SVT Focus this coming week. Variety is the spice of life...
