Passenger side fog light is cracked!

I heard this before, but never thought it would happen to me. Today as I was walking to my truck I decided to check if my fog lights were ok. I look on the driver side and everything looks good, then I look on the passenger side and... OMG!! The passenger side fog lamp got a nasty crack with like three big branches coming off from it. Looks like a piece is about to fall out! Dammit! :m

I think to myself. Would this be covered by warranty? What worries me most is that if this won't be covered by warranty and then if it keeps happening over and over again this may cost a lot in the long run. :(

I never had that problem in my '99 Grand Prix GTP. Why would Lightnings have it? What was Ford thinking when designing those fog lights?!

Has anyone here been lucky enough to replace those cracked fog lamps as warranty covered defect from the dealership (for free that is)?

How much would it cost to replace them if they are not covered by the warranty?

Time to remove them and get the 007 style machine guns installed instead. Will give a little bit of motivation to those people who daydream at stoplights and hold up traffic :)

You weren't using them in the fog, were you? They generally hold up pretty well unless you actually use them in the fog, rain, snow, or any condition where they might actually be of use.

My 01's

have been cracked for about 7-8 months. Just don't want to take 'her' to the dealer--she's never been for anything before and she's just paranoid.

Have heard that some dealers will insist that the crack(s) were caused by a rock and therefore, not covered. It is ironic(if not stupid) that they crack when they are used ! Some change them with no questions asked.

Had mine replaced once (both sides) for free under warranty, with no problems. My new set are cracked again, but like LIGHTNINROD said, I don't want to take it back to the dealer and let them touch her.

Hey brother, I was in the same boat. Got in good with my Techs that work on my L and I asked them one day how much they could get them for. He said, "Hmmmm..looks like water got in them." The very next week I got 2 new Fog lights. I guess it boils down to how well you are friends. Takes time to build a freindship with the mechanics, but well worth it in my opinion.

you're lucky!

I WISH mine would crack. That way the 2 inches of water in them would leak out! I'm just gonna put some gold fish in there for the next car show. It sure would be unique! :tu: What I don't understand is how it got that built up, and secondly, how the hell do they still work with the bulb halfway under water?!?! Id think that the water would get pretty hot with the lights on too. Who knows. Only Ford, right.....

'89 mustang GT and '99/'00 Lightning

The driving lights on these models have the glass lenses in which are the same lense. My GT has the original lenses(pristene condition)...lucky I suppose. :tu: On my 2000 L, the lenses never cracked, even running with them on during rain and snow. My 2001 L, has had both running light assy's replaced twice now. Both sets cracking all up within the first few hours of being on...I've made arrangments with the dealer, to get these mal-formed pieces replaced for the third time....This time I'll not turn them on, as they really "are non functional items"... :(
