This is the 2nd one(new) the my L has had on it. I was under the hood today while my father was inside reving it to scare me!! But when he did I heard a slight rattling comming from the egr valve. So I had him chuck up a couple more revs and, YUP!! Friggin thing is fluttering and rattling when you rev the engine?? Is it supposed to do this? When the engine RPMs are on the way up it's fine but when you let off the throttle the rubber plunger flutters real fast like and rattles while doing this. I don't have a surging idle or a rough one at that. It gets good gas mileage. But it has had a pinging problem ever since the day I tried to bump the timing from it's factory setting of 6dgrs??? It is at 10 now and still pings once and a while! I have a bunch of mods going on in a few weeks and I just want to resolve this once and for all before the trick flows go on!:( Thanks for reading.:)

I have 77K miles on the L as of right now. Waht other info do you need? It has a new O2 sensor,EGR valve, egr valve positioning sensor, egr valve regulator, and the 2 things under it that vacuum lines go to, map sensor, plugs,wires,cap/rotor,coil,throttle position sensor, fuel filter(3 times),had a carbon wash done, has a 180 dgr t-stat, and alot of other stuff! Mods are full bassani exhaust, level 10 shift kit, electric fans, cold air kit(home made from kenne bell & home depot),under drives, and other small bolt ons. Any help from any one is GREATLY apreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Only thing I can think of at the moment is the upper intake. Don't know if the EGR tube having a crack (hole) in it would cause that. In other words, I don't know if the EGR function is effected by a loss of gas pressure on the valve (due to a leak in the tube). Does the engine make any ticking noises from the top area ( aside from the EGR flappin' around) ? I have the full set of manuals for the '93's. '94-'95 should be the same. I'll dig though and get back to you....

There are two things I can think of that could cause this. The first can happen to any car depending on how the EGR system is plumbed. Sometimes when a catalytic converter is on the way out it causes strange things to happen to the rest of the engine managment system, especially with OBDI. The second is specific to Fords (as far as I know) and is caused by the IAC valve. Sometimes they act up and send a resonance through the entire intake tract. In bad cases it sounds like the engine is farting. Some Ford models have a TSB for this, I know the Explorer with 4.0 is one of them and it uses an IAC similar to a L1.

Thanks! But the IAC is new and the cats are Bassani X pipe form and they do not have a 1000 miles on them yet! Anyone else?:(
