OEM Mufflers

Thunder Road 95

Too many projects
Does anyone know what kind of mufflers gen1 Lightnings came with? The reason I ask, is that my truck was represented to me as being all original by the previous owner. When I was under the truck today, I noticed that it had Flowmasters, so I assume they replaced the original mufflers. It looks like they were welded into the existing system. I always thought it sounded pretty good for a stock exhaust, now I know why! The funny thing is, when I bought the truck, I got a file full of receipts to the previous two owners for battery, tires, window tint, alarm, etc., but nothing about replacing mufflers.

they dont come with flows, the guys that know their stuff on here will tell ya.

Ford made them, and I remember reading an article that they made them to give the most throaty, burbly sort of sound they could get while still regarding emissions, noise, etc.

The only truck I can think of with aftermarket exhaust from factory is the R/T. THey have dynomaxes. Dodge, they'll give em a muffler, but no headers.

hope this helps

If I can remeber right I think that it had one big muffler with the two pipes running trough it. I think thats right but dont hold mt too it.

The stock exhausted had two mufflers w/ 2 1/2" pipe in and 2 1/4" out exiting behind the right rear tire. the mfflers were layed in one in front of the other at a angle to allow the pipes to pass by. The exhaust sounded good for OEM, but when I replaced it with Flows and 2 1/2" tailpipes out the back the seat of the pants and MPG improved. Oh yeah it sounds better too:tu:

srdstang,

Sorry but your wrong. The Gen 1 Lightning came with True Dual exhaust, Two mufflers .

You forgot to add that the stock mufflers sound like CRAP with a Bassani off-road cat-back...and they turn funny colors and start to rattle after a month or so:)
