i dont know if any of you guys have had this problem yet or not... but i snapped second gear in half..... ford said it was beyond repair so they got me a new tranny.. is there anything specail or different in 2002 trannies over a 00 tranny.. as far as i know there are no changes if this is true what is gonna stop this from happening again to me?

Yep, I did. I had no reverse and it was stuck in 2nd gear.
I had 0 psi in reverse and 2nd gear. The OD light was flashing as well. My dealer said it is a common problem on the SVT Lightning and the SVT Cobra with and auto trans. They warrantied my transmission without no problems. They said the cost to repair transmission exceeds cost of new one. I had my truck back in 3 days.

It's not too common in the L, they have a better reliability than a 4R100 in most trucks. And it can't be real common in the Cobras with automatics, because I'm led to believe that Cobras don't come with autos.

Cobras only come with manual trans.

Do you have a chip? I've heard that in using a chip, one of the things that is programmed into it is to remove the hesitation in the 1-to-2 shift which can cause stress on the trans and possible breakage due to the "massive torque"applied. That's why Ford programmed in the hesitation - to help save the trans.

If you do have a chip, and got the trans warrantied, you're lucky!

actually, the SVT lightnings have a 4R100.
That was what the dealer told me. I dont follow crapstangs anyway.

I left everything on my truck except the chip. I towed it in and got it back with no hassle.

I read that 3 times before I understood it.

Yes I know they have 4R100s, but what I was saying is that THAT paticular model of the 4R100, which only goes into Lightnings, has better reliability #s than 4R100s as a whole, and better than most other models of 4R100 (there are this year I think 33 different models of 4R100).
And anyhow, I still think that the dealer was "improvising" , by the reference to to the "Cobras with Automatics"

No it shouldn't, there are some issues with a few, but almost all of the failed trannies I know of that are not mod related (a majority) are build and mis build issues, the basic design of the box is pretty good, but sometimes the factroy makes mistakes. It happens, and that's why you have a warrantry. Hope you get it all worked out.
