New Motor on Order

They had my truck for about 5 or 6 hrs today. Told me the new motor is on order. Said go ahead and drive it til it comes in. This was unexpected as was the replacement of my cracked right fog light. I won't complain as I've heard of people being without their truck the whole time their motor was on order. They say could be anywhere from tomorrow to a week from now, but didn't want my truck anywhere but my house with this snowstorm coming. So far so good. I figured on the new motor, but it still sucks to actually know.

Southgate Ford is doing the install under warranty. Lower end knock like about 20% of Ls, it seems. I'm not the first and I'm definitely not gonna be the last. But I waited as long as I could, because I wanted there to be no more of the lot of engines that included mine. Shame too, cuz mine runs like a scalded cat. I dunno, maybe the new one will run even better?

Knocks all the time. Sounds like a diesel. Especially annoying when up against a wall like a drive-thru window. Nope, they didn't tell me why, but I'll get it out of em when I go back for the new mill.

Gitchi, Sorry to hear that. I have got the diesel sound problem too. Although it comes and goes. Seems to be a lot more common. I am like you the engine runs so sweet I hate to have it switched out. I am going to try the Mobil one oil next. If that does not work it will be a new motor for me too. Keep us up to date. Good luck. Bob.

I've been using Mobil 1 since the first oil change. Unfortunately, I don't think that'll help you if yours is the same as mine. Mine very seldom was without the noise. Sometimes I couldn't hear it when I started it up and for about 5 min after. But as soon as it was fully warmed up; tuk, tuk, tuk.

Southgate surprised me by giving me the truck back while they wait for the motor. I've heard the stories of people's Ls sitting at the dealership all this time. (sometimes for up to a month) I personally called Bob Lovett the SM, though, and he prolly knows by now I'm gonna be very anal about my truck. Sounds like they have ONE tech that does all the SVT work and he knows what the hell he's doing. I'm gonna try to meet him when I go back. They also changed my fog light under warranty, so, so far, so good. Oh, rest assured, if they break it, I'll be back here telling all. Same thing applies if they are wonderful.:tu:
