New Member, New Truck, Problem already

Hi guys, first post :)

Got my '02 L last Friday... the next Monday it was back to the dealership for warranty work on the dash backlights going out. Turned out to be a short in the guage cluster and they replaced the whole works rather than try to fix it.

*sigh* Not very encouraging... and now I'm getting a low RPM rattle that sounds distinctly like the exhaust is hitting somewhere. Anyone have any experience with these things? Did I just get the built-on-friday everyine-in-a-rush-to-get-off-work truck or what?

Other than that, happy as can be. I love the blower whine bahaha. And my Raptor fits right in the back perfectly. :D

never had either of those problems, but welcome to the board. hopefully those will be the only problems you ever have.

I hope so too... nothing too serious, but it sucked only getting to drive the truck for 2 days and a night before it went in for 2 days of service. :(

I love it though, that's for sure. Can't wait to chip it hehehe.

Welcome to the board BlkLightningTX!

I'm sure you r L will settle down and 'behave' shortly. ;)

Jake...

I had the exhaust rattle problem. Check the "U" shaped muffler clamps that hold the polished exhaust tips on to the muffler. One of mine got twisted around somehow (maybe in transport?) and was hitting the pipe next to it. Made a God awful sound at idle in gear.

Good luck with the truck and welcome a board.

Just noticed your signature and looks like we have a little in common.

Just sold my T-type, on it's way to get back halved and turned into a T-88 Stage II street fighter. I also have a motor bike :) .

Thanks Kerrdogg, I'll give it a look! I'm sure it's something simple, nothing that complicated in an exhaust rattle hehe.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I was starting to worry. :( Got up to something like 30 views and no replies.

I'm hoping I never have to see the service department again until it's time for maintenance. The good thing about getting a Lightning with a short in the guage cluster on the first night you own it... I got 2 free oil changes from the dealership out of it (for the pain and suffering of having to drive a Focus rental car  ).

Debating if I should ask this here or not hehe, but I'm going to anyways. What should my first 3 mods be? Air filter, chip and a pulley? :p

You had to rent a car?!?!?! 01 and up SVT owners are supposed to get a FREE loaner car anytime their SVT vehicle is in for service other than oil changes. If they made you pay for the car I would go back and kick somebody's ***.

On a lighter note, welcome to the board.

Most people would do chip, filter and pulley for the first mods. I'm doing long tubes and exhaust first because uncle sam is buying and that a big buck mod. I'll get the smaller stuff one chunk at a time. I'm also kinda nervous about chips and pulleys with all the blown engines out there.

I should clarify, it was a loaner car I didn't have to pay for it. Still the indignity of trading in a 2002 Corvette for a 2002 Lightning and then having to drive a Focus... *shudder*

Hehe... I want to mod the heck out of the Lightning, but I too am concerned with the threads I'm seeing on blown motors. :(

Welcome aboard BlkLightningTX. The hassels are worth the enjoyment that you will be getting. Have fun and be safe.

BlkLightningTX,

Come visit us in the TALON forum. There's a ton of local DFW that hang together...

We'll be getting together at Pugslie's Just east of 35E on Walnut Hill on February 7th around 6pm for our monthly meeting.

Hey BlkLightningTX,
Welcome to the board!

If all goes well, the only thing you will need to go to the dealer for is to see about getting that constant silly grin off of your face :D
