New '93 L owner questions! (pic)

Hey all,

I just picked up a '93 Black L with about 105K on the clock. The truck is in pretty good shape and just needs a little TLC to be perfect. The truck has a the full Bassani exhaust package (headers, x-pipe and cat back) so I don't have to upgrade that. However, I do want to make a few upgrades to end up with a mid 13 sec truck.

I have had experience with mass air 5.0L's before but I have not worked on any speed density ones. I would like to start off with heads and a cam swap and then go with a supercharger later. Do I have to do a mass air swap for the heads to work? Same question for the cam.

Here is a picture of my new toy.

I still have to change the rear axle sensor and the rear main. It's funny how common these problems are.

Let me be the first to say nice truck:D I couldn't help but notice all the cars covered up and the nice sized garage, wish I had one like that. Just get an EEC tuner and you won't need mass air. What kind of cars are those?

Shawn,

I currently rent office and garage space from a local Ann Arbor car club. We have about 150 members and all sorts of unique vehicles. It's mostly European stuff like older Jaguars, MG's and the like, but there are a few Hemi cars, Cobra kit cars, and several older Mustangs. Right now a buddy and I are building a screaming 351C for his '70 Torino. The car is a bit heavy to be truly fast but it should be a nice street driver.

Welcome!
You can swap the heads and cam without messing with the computer as long as you get a speed density friendly cam. As far as heads go, Trick Flows, Edelbrocks, and AFR's have been used with great success so far. As far as cams go, I believe lobe separation of 114* is the critical part. As long as you're changing it, you might want to convert to a roller cam. For flat tappet hydraulics, comp cams and crane each have a grind. - Brian

p.s. We also have a Michigan chapter Lightning club, MiLOC, its forum is located at the bottom of the forums screen:)

hey man honestly if all you want is a 13 second truck skip the heads and cam and just get a vortech s trim and a custom burnt chip and youll be there, no sense in wasting money

i agree with mike! skip the heads and cam and forget any driveability issues associated with them. if 13's is the goal then just bolt on blower, get some traction control ie: slicks, rancho bars. youll be deep in the 13's and youll spend way less money. with an 8lb blower, stall convertor and traction i was turning 12 sec et. :w
