finally i can ask my question. About a week ago, the clutch on my ac compressor decided to burn up, literally. My question is, can that be replaced, or do i need a whole new compressor. It's about 15* right now, so it's not a real pressing issue, but i had to unhook the electrical connections to get the clutch to release. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a compressor on my L lock up. I got a replacement from NAPA for about $200. I was going to school for auto mechanics when it happened so I had access to the A/C machine. My trruck came w/ R-12 and retrofitted to R-134a. If the compressor failed you will need to change the orfice tube, its in the lower evaporator tube (about $6)

If you retrofit you will need a new accumulator about $60

Get it fixed during the off season to save $$

Convert to 134-A for sure while you have the chance. Cheaper and works just fine. I have done 3 trucks and they are very cold. Be sure your system is clean if your compressor went bad. It does sound like it, or you will be back in it in a year!!! Greg

I thought about it, but i think currently the benefits of having ac outweigh the gains from removing it. Although the bad compressor might sit there, at least through the winter, and most of the spring.
