Need MORE !

This thread could also be titled : Why I hate BMW drivers.
No offense to the M3 crowd -

It just seems to me (and the wife) that of the idiot like driving behavior we see exhibited around DC, an inordinate number of perps are BMW drivers. Today for example, some maroon in a BMW decided that the right lane was better & forced his way over without looking. In his defense he DID signal after he was in my lane. This move nearly cost me my left front end. SO I quickly but smoothly applied the brakes, and transitioned to WFOT cutting out & then back in front of him, no longer to be troubled by his stupidity, but rewared by observing his ever shrinking puzzled look in my rearview mirror...

My problem is this. It wasn't impressive enough. When I used to do this in my 460 '69 Cougar, people from hundreds of feet away would stop what they were doing, and observe the butt-kicking in progress. :D Drivers would be stunned into inaction and I could go on my way, uncontested.

When I pass someone on the left, I want the exhaust pulses to blow the other vehicle on to the shoulder and shatter windows  Of course, it still has to have a tolerable cabin noise level and of course, it has to produce MORE power...

*sigh* I successfully avoided trading paint, and I'm glad, just irritated at the idiot BMW driver.

Thanks for letting me rant...

surely not *all* BMW drivers are like the clown this morning... Are they? ;) The BMW Auto X I went to a couple years ago was pretty fun...

Now that I've had a chance to calm down a little, and, the voices have stopped screaming at me, I'm sure there ARE SOME BMW drivers SOMEWHERE that are reasonably competent... I just haven't seen them since that Auto-X...

Dude, it all depends. I don't think it's limited to BMW drivers. I owned 2 BMWs for a while, but ended up getting tired of them and selling them both. I'd like to think that I wasn't a total @$$ while driving either of them. Counterpoint: one of my co-workers bought an M5 and immediately decided his ****e didn't stink while driving. Saw him going down the toll road (I'm near DC as well, btw) cutting people off and swerving in and out of traffic like a maniac. He got like 3 tickets in 12 months, last I checked he's on a restricted license.

I think the real issue is entitlement. People get the idea in their head that they're allowed to behave badly, so they do. It's one thing to drive fast, it's quite another to irritate and/or endanger others while you are doing it.

I totally agree with you... I live in Santa Clarita, CA and there is plenty of BMW drivers around here not to mention everything else... Give somebody a nice car and they think they own the road... I have had my share of people acting like they own the road because they drive a $45 BMW... I guess you just have to drive defensive...

yeah... I know.

now that the voices are only a whisper, I've had time to reflect and all. I agree, it isn't a behavior that is exclusive to BMW drivers. In fact, you can see many different types of cars doing this type of thing. I *do* stand by my statement that I've noticed an inordinate amount of BMW drivers misbehaving though

It's a shame, too. A lot of BMW's are fine machines, along with some Lexus & & Infinity models... Unfortunately, a lot of them are piloted by inattentive morons, yakking away on their cell phones, too busy with the inner workings of their lives - which are much more important than mine - to pay attention to the task at hand:
DRIVING

I don't mind a fast driver, I don't mind a driver that's going faster than me (unless it's a manifestly slower vehicle trying to get in front, and then slow down to 5 under the posted limit), I don't mind multi lane changers - as long as they're paying attention.

I do mind getting cut off by some idiot that shouldn't be allowed to operate a Radio Flyer kiddie wagon, much less a car...

whew. I feel a lot better now :)

Thus the joke:

Q: What's the difference between a porcupine and a BMW?

A: The porcupine has the pricks on the outside.

And yes, I know. There's a woman who drives a 530 in my neighborhood, I've had to stop to let her take her presumed right-of-way about 5 times now, even though it theoretically should've been mine. She doesn't even slow down for the stop sign at the top of the street. If I had been less attentive we would've had an accident several times by now, I'm sure. I'm guessing I'm not the only one that had to get out of the stupid @#%@'s way.

At the risk of sounding prejudice, I really agree with the statement that many if not most BMW drivers seem to be pricks.

My wife and I are about to be in the market for a new car or SUV (Trading in our 99 Tahoe), and we have eliminate BMW's for a few reasons. One reason is that so many people around here WANT you to think that they have something special, and that their BMW is a piece of gold.

After owning a 91 318IS, I swore that I would NEVER buy another beemer, but I do realize that mine was one of those "first year transition" cars regarding the new engine... After 60K, I was paying more in monthly maintainence costs than I would have been paying for car payments on a new car... $900 here, $400 there, and always a little nagging problem that wasn't worth fixing.

I think that I would rather see my wife getting groceries in a new Lincoln LS, a GC Envoy, or better yet, a new Mercury Marauder..
