My experience with Tire Rack

I needed a couple F1s so I thought I would call around to the local tire stores to get a price. The best price quoted was $299 each, not including mounting and balancing.

So I decided to give The Tire Rack a try.

I went to http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp , took about 5 to 10 minutes of crusin around on the site and finally placed the order. The tires arrived at my house on Friday Feb. 8, 2002 at around 12:30pm.

Price for both of the F1s, shipping included, $399 .

Took them to my local speciality shop where they charged $37.50 to mount and balance. They asked where I got the tires and I told them The Tire Rack, because they beat everyone else's price quotes.
I have done business with these quys for years, but $200 is $200. They said, "Hey, next time tell us what you want and we will order it through The Tire Rack at the same cost to you."

The Tire Rack also gave me the option of having the F1s shipped directly to my specialty tire shop.

A great experince.

i also just ordered 2 tires from them i have 10,000 miles and never rotated the tires the backs are on the verge of being failed at inspection time, but back to the topic i asked what they would cost at the local goodyear shop they quoted me $371 a piece see ya i will be ordering all my tires from tire rack get this i work for Goodyear and i cant even touch their price with my factory discount!!!

Yeah I wish they had more wheels availible and Nittos in the new 18" size.

I have bought numerous tires from them. Since my home is in IN about 1.5 hrs away from one of the locations I order then drive up and have whatever put on and then go back home. I got snow tires for my camaro when I had it. I need to sell those here soon, like new too....

If I go with stock style rims I may very well go with the ones they sell.....more pricey then those on ebay though.

THey are ford wheels I think though not the knock offs.

SVT375,
I too work for Goodyear and the price Tire Rack sells the F1's at makes me wonder how we could ever compete with them... I work for Just Tires so our cost on a F1 in that size is about $250... Still everyday Tire Rack sells them at under $200...

Morpheus,
Tire Rack does sell the factory wheels but i believe not the factory chromes... I think they send them out and have them dipped...

i work at a goodyear factory i was concerned about getting seconds because they were so cheap but they are not,i looked into what the run out on these tires were (they are not produced at our plant so it took a few calls )i found out that that it is one of the lowest made by goodyear and these tires do not leave the factory unless they are within spec

I ordered a set of 275/60/17 Goodyears from Tire Rack about 4 years ago. It was obvious when I received them that they were seconds. I had to send back 3 of the 4, and then 2 of the 3 again before getting 4 good tires. Some of the tread in the center of the tire looked "melted". I'd never buy anything from them again. Just saying buyer beware.

I've bought so many sets of tires from them I can't count or remember them all. I will not buy tires from anybody else, I have had nothing but great service and prices each and every time.

Well, I don't really know how to tell if the F1s I got are seconds, but they look pretty good to me. Normal labels, markings, etc.

And they make smoke just like my old ones did.

If you have a Discount Tire in your area, you can hit the Tire Rack web site, select the tire(s) you want and print out the page with the prices. Take the print out to Discount and they will meet the price. I have done this several times because Discount usually has the tires in the local area and can get them the same day. I have used Discount for many years and have always been happy with their service.

Got Boost,
The tires you bought were grinded because they came out of the mold bad and like SVT375 said should have been junked... We see this about 1 in 100 tires at our shop and just adjust the tire out so it doesn't go on a customers car... Tire Rack is not to blame there and they probably had a killer special on the tires because they can sell them as blems...

They didn't tell me they were blemished though, thats my problem with them. They pushed them off as normal. My brother ordered a set of tires from them about 6 years ago(can't remember the brand, etc.) and he had problems also. His tires would not balance up. My local Goodyear man will match their prices on F1's so it's not worth dealing with them. They have lost thousands of $$ of business between me, my brother, and word of mouth.

Ditto here. Several full sets of tires for various cars over the years, never a problem. One of the few places I can count on to get it right the first time. Can't speak for everyone's experiences, but mine have all be great.

SVT375: Give me your email addy so you can mail me the pink slip. :tu: Seriously, a friend of a friend owns a Good Year chain and can get me those for that price. 189/tire.

I manage a Goodyear and that is my cost. I can get em for my truck for $181.00 each. I know, I just ordered 2 from my local w-house today for the "L".

I cannot figure out how they get em so cheap, I can guess that they order buy the boat load and get a MAJOR discount from Corp.

Nick,

It's all about the back end money when it comes down to volume. I can sell parts I have in stock all day long at Ford's cost (like a certain someones tonneau cover :) ) and still make 18% profit on the back side. The higher the volume the higher the incentive and the greater the return on wholesale incentive. If your cost is $189, ask Goodyear how much for 1000 F1's, bet you pay around $160 for them at which $200 would be a fair amount of mark up. Now the question is if your boss would bes willing to shell out $160,000 for the opportunity to make that profit or not.

Nothing but good luck with Tire Rack. Good prices and good service.:tu: I guess it's like any other place some have good luck and others don't for what ever reason.
