Motor Ponderings

I'm interested to see what Steve Morris comes up with... they have a couple videos out right now tearing down a Godzilla and figuring out where the weak points are/how to fix them. Should be interesting to see what they eventually come up with. The cuts in the deck surface are a big hurdle to real power, which basically means the Ford Performance block.

What is the "known limit" of the 351W block HP wise? Like at what point is the Dart block really necessary?

Well $10,500 I guess but that's with a 2 year warranty which is cool. Which Godzilla are you entertaining? A takeout?
Yeppers, looking at a place named Godzilla Garage in Canada. They pull them from E450s that are being converted to electric. Only have delivery miles on them which is like 5-10 miles.

Yeah I was watching those vids good stuff, they were mostly worried about those slits with boost, and remember Kyle and Steve are talking BIG power. I think there's plenty of Whippled Godzillas make big numbers, I'd be worried about pistons and rods before I would that block letting go.

351w block will take a lot, pistons, rods, crank go before it does.

Hard to know the true limit of any part. I have anecdotal evidence to support the entire stock bottom end of my 351w with 200k miles on it can support over 1000 crank HP.. the stock Godzilla does look better than a stock 351w however. I do believe right now if it isn't an absolute budget build the SBF takes the win in just about every single category currently. Doesn't mean the Godzilla is a bad engine at all. I just think it has another few/several years before it's really can compete with a SBF in big power applications where you have to use aftermarket parts in both engines.

It isn't the block that lets go... It's the head gaskets. Lots of head gasket failures out there on the 7.3's trying to make over 4 digit power due to that coolant cut. Coolant cut is probably good for cooling but not so good for head sealing when trying to make power. Early on people where hard filling the blocks to hold a gasket...now Ford performance has the non coolant cut block which I'm sure is better. And I really haven't seen a lot of Whipple'd Godzillas out there making what I would call "big power". Throwing a "700" HP Whipple kit on an f250 isn't exactly big power in my opinion. All this is rated at the crank as well which is fine but 700hp isn't a lot these days in my opinion. 700 Wheel and we starting to get somewhere lol. I watched Kyles channel on the 7.3 stuff thus far and they are only talking about running this engine NA for now. It will be interesting to see what they do with it. I'm a fan of the Godzilla motor for sure but not sold that it's a better platform in any way yet other than being cheaper when comparing the engine in stock form as it is a good deal for what you can get. When anyone decides they want to make real power and they have to upgrade parts then at that point it is I believe not cost effective any more. It is however a cool swap and I get that.

Yeah I should have said head gaskets are what they pointed out in the video. I'm not interested in another high HP build (haha mark this on your calendar). I want to the black truck to be my fun reliable cruiser with some decent power.

I’m learning more about it now. Been following this series myself…

Wheels are turning, I know there’s motor mount kits out there, but I want 100% bolt in with no cutting removal etc. Won’t really know for sure until I have an engine, but I figure I can at least start on the base.

Going to 3D scan the crossmember tomorrow after work so I can do some better CAD modeling.IMG_1280.jpeg

Why not just get the well sorted mounts?

I'd like to leave the stock motor mount perches on, I doubt I'll be able to, but I'd like to try.

And even when using their AC bracket and smaller compressor you still have to notch the crossmember. I'd like to see if I can move the engine around to accommodate the OEM compressor or at least a Sanden compressor with no cutting.

I know folks a lot smarter than me have come up with mounts and such, but like I said previously I am stubborn :)

I think the Holley accessory drive relocated the ac system to save cutting.

Yeah, but then the cost starts to pass a windsor! That might be the only way and if it is so be it, but I am going to try like hell to make it work stock and no cutting.

I fear that it's going to be hard to be much cheaper than a Windsor in the end once everything is accounted for... Even time really. I really want to see what you come up with though. I heavily considered the Godzilla before as well and would like to see a easier drop in option..
