OK guys need your help! I am looking at a black 99 with 47000 miles. I drove it for about 30 minutes today and it drives straight, doesnt make any noises (even when cold) and drives straight. ID say it is great mechanical shape, but there are a few scratches on the passangers side and the rear bumper and swirl marks, but I know I can I get them out at home and then Zaino it. The inside is in very good shape and so is the bed and under the hood. It has had the intercooler recall done already. Id say the tires are good for about 10000 more miles.

I made an offer of $20000 and I think they'll take it. What I need to know is that a good price considering the mileage? What mechanicla things should I look out for with a 99? IS it worth it to get the warranty? Is $1300 for a Premium Care Ford ESP (bumper to bumper) to much? Is it good to have (with all the "clunk" stories, piston slap and motor replacements, etc, etc)? Any ideas and advice is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks!!
 
I'm not sure. That's a lot of miles on a 99 for $20K.

Someone on f150online was selling an '01 with 4-5K miles for $24K.
 
I think that's about what I paid for the Premium Care extended warranty too. It's up to you if you purchase the warranty, but after the first time I looked under the hood, I was certain I wanted it! As of now my truck has 18.5K on it with no problems so far other than the I/C recall to replace my original I/C that was NOT leaking with another I/C which is NOT leaking either! :tu:

Can't really help ya w/ the pricetag. I don't know for sure.

Are you close enough to any of the "L" tuners to have them give it a once over? ..... :tu:

Might cost you $100.00 to have it done, but buying an L is pretty close to buying a house. Have it looked at !! By a professional.

I just bought my red 99 in october, with 3,800 miles on it, I got the extended warrenty 65,000 miles bumper to bumper. it now has 9,000 miles on it. I was in the same situation you are. i paid 24,500$ for mine in october, the truck wassn't even broken in yet, not entil around 5,000 miles i was told. You have to look at one thing, before you buy this truck.... If there are any mods done to this truck, I would not recomend it, because when people put mods on they usually are the ones that beat thier trucks. But I've tallked to johnny lightning, and he put 30,000 miles on his 99 runing extra boost, in the low 12's with no problems he said. if you are buying it from a used dealership, make sure they will honer the warrenty, if thier are mods like a chip, pulley etc. I looked at a 00 truck with 4,000 miles on it but it had mods, and that scared my away from it. i bought mine 100% stock. 47,000 miles is alot of miles for a supercharged engine, byt it all depends on how hard the truck was driven. find out if it is a one owner truck or not, and how they (person or dealer) got the truck. Ive come to find out that dealers do mot know much about lightnings. the salesman at the dealer were i bought mine said it had a 5.8 litre in it, and it was a ford dealer. so to answer you question, I paid 900$ for my extented warrenty, but as the miles on the truck go up so will the cost of the warrenty. try to find out about the history of the truck the best you can. look up the retail of the truck on kelly blue book .com and see if the cost is about right. deffinatly go with the extended warrenty if you can. good luck on the truck, but don't jump into the first thing you see shop wisely , and do your homework. don't be afraid to walk out on them (the dealer) they will call u back to make the deal. I bought my 99 in September of 01. It was on the lot for 27K. I showed them my trade in, 97 150 XLT 4x4, had 50 K on it. They came down to 17 K for the lightning without much hasseling, and I got them to throw in the ESP warranty of 2yrs/24Kmiles, value of $400-500. The L had 42K on it at the time, brand new tires and a COMPLETE brake job, couple minor scratches and swirl marks, they did the intercooler recall, and performed an alignment, as part of the deal. The warranty was definatly worth it, needed a trans within 5K miles. Get them to come down a few thousand and throw in some extras and you will be good. Also look on Ebay they go for over 20K every day, also the book value I believe with that kind of milage is 23K for a trade in and 27K for retail. GO For it!! Have fun!
 
Better run a CarFax on that badboy and make sure it wasn't Johnny's '99. :) Somebody, somewhere is gonna buy that puppy and be surpised.
 
Well latest update, The dealer called me back and said they would be losing $1500 on the deal at $20k. I said "oh well. Call me back if you change your minds" They said they'd "try to make it work". I told them to call me if they wanted to do it, otherwaise Ill keep looking or buy something else (maybe a new L, different used L, or SVT Focus, or similar). Thanks for the info guys!

BTW, this truck is at Roy OBrien Ford n St Clair Shores, MI. We'll see what happens. ANyone know of any others in Michigan?

One of our family friends is selling his Lightning. It is a 1999 with just over 36000 on it. I am not sure the price but can check for you. I think that he mentioned something about being under 20000 but not for sure. If intrested post back. He wants to sell it soon though.

Gitchi, Varsity out by me has a bunch of new L's. Any used L's there at Southgate? Well I think Ill at least give 'em a call.

Some dealerships are just nuts! I was looking at a White 99 had 47k on it also! Ford dealership wanted $28k for it! It had at least one wheel bearing bad i could hear and under the cover the bed was horribly scratched! The woman I was dealing with(yea women) was nice but she is also nuts. I was even going to trade my GTP in. The dealership is Terre Haute Ford. Just so you know.... I told them That i could get a new one ordered to my door from ford for almost that! They said to do it... I cant wait when I do... ill show them what i got!
 
Well that dealer didnt call today, so I guess they dont want the sale. Oh well! I did go to another dealre and looked at an 00 with 30k today. Nice black truck, runs and drives great. I had them print me an Oasis on it and has had the cylinder heads replaced for the "loose" spark plugs and the intercooler recall, but no other history to speak of. They want $21900.

They also have a black 01 on the lot. Only 6500 miles and are asking $24900. Good price Id say. BUT I can see the rear tires have a bit of wear, it has a magnaflow muffler with no tailpipes (turn downs), and a aftermarket cone filter. Im guessing it may have had a chip in it too. I think the price is great for an 01, but do you think with the mods that is is a truck to stay away form?

Milwaukee wisconsin 2000

I just picked up my 2002 at Venus Ford cudahy(milwaukee) wisconsin and they have a 2000 red one for 21,000 not sure of the miles. PHone number is 414-481-8500. Good luck. And I know this one is stock with no after market stuff on it.going there on THursday to pick up my Tonaue cover. Will check if you want me to.
 
Thanks, but it would be kinda hard to work the deal and my tade ins from Michigan. But if they do that kinda thing let me know.
