MGW Chrome SVT Hitch Plug

I just received my hitch plug from MGW (I'm at work!). It is a very NICE piece, I recommend it to anyone. It comes with a disclaimer about the chrome plating pretty much saying it is meant for "show use" only and should be removed from the vehicle if it is to be subjected to "acid rain" or "road salt" etc. Meaning don't drive on public roads with it installed???

I completely understand that chrome is not a durable coating for exterior vehicle parts, but shouldn't they own up to the pratical (typical) use of a hitch plug and restate their disclaimer towards what most of the buyers of their parts are going to use them for - everyday use. How about just including care instructions and a simple warning about pitting and discoloration from road-going chemicals and contaminants, rather than opting out by saying it is for "show use only".

I think that is lame in my opinion. They are just pulling a C.Y.A. because some @ssh@le tried to return one of their products because he/she didn't take care of it like they should have.

Ok, I'm done...have a nice day!

well in a nutshell i have to agree with you!!!

we have had a few people use these hitch covers in the chicago blizzards and new york winters all year round and basically scrapped the plugs from leaving road salt on them all winter.

my bet is they never cleaned them at all. well i know most people do not treat their trucjs this way but i also feel like if someone is going to buy a 45 dollar custom chrome plug they probably do not drive their vehicles year round or are willing to take them out during the winter time.

our we covering our a$$?? well maybe but at the same time we do cover our products with a one year warrnaty if taken care of and most products suppliers would not even dream of that.

i hope you understand and can read into the disclaimer and maybe i will look into wording it a little more like you suggested.

:-)

Now that is a professional response! Thank you very, very much!!

Of course I had no idea the owner of the company I bought my new hitch plug from would read my posting - and much to my surprise I didn't get yelled at. I appreciate your taking into consideration my views. I figured some idiot tried to get you to give them a new plug because they left it on in the winter months - I was right! I live in Florida, so I don't have to deal with snow and road salt. However, I have had a set of chrome rims on one of my previous cars though, and am aware of the discoloration and pitting that can occur if you don't clean them regularly. I will definitely give this attention to my hitch plug!

You have yourself a dedicated customer now, I was mulling over buying some of your other products, but now I know I'm going to order from you again.

Thanks again George!

svttruck...

sounds good and i hope to hear from you.

fomocofan...

the polished alum. ones are quite nice but they are also susceptible to the same pitting and tarnishing that chrome has. our hitch covers are machined from aircraft grade alum. alloy and then triple chromed and we have actually seen the chrome ones hold up better than the raw alum ones. believe me i would much rather not have to pay 6.00 freakin dollars to chorme plate these things :):):)

Hey svtruck,

Any chances we could get a pic of the cover installed? I was mulling over the hitch cover and waiting anxiously for the license plate frame, in fact I drool all over the gadgets MGW has to offer for the lightning.
:D

FireGuy, sure, I am going to install it tomorrow, I'll post a pic if someone else doesn't beat me to it. ;)

fomocofan, Damn! You got me there! Um, uh, whatever!

Hey MGW,

Any plans on making door entry guards for the Gen1 with the Lightning or SVT logo?
