Maybe a fix for rough idle

Finally Satisfied
I may have found out a fix for rough idles,or for some of you.My truck had a rough idle too,and surged a little too.one day i was driving my truck and it just quite on me for no reason.i got out and checked if i had fuel pressure,i did, then i got back in and tried to start it,it tried to start but didnt.i sat a little longer and tried starting it again,it started but was rough running.i then thought it had to be the ignition modual,so on the way home i stopped at a parts store and bought a modual ,then i put it on.The truck ran real smooth, idled great.maybe when the ignition moduals get old they dont work too well.I dont know, but it fixed my idle.maybe this will help somebody.I bought the modual at auto zone,a cheap japan made one.Go figure!

I dont have part number, but they are all the same i guess.Just get one for a f150,5.8,thats what i asked for.I saw there screen,it didnot say lightning,it said f150.

OK,I found the old box the modual came in,its made by GP sorensen, part# EL131,assembled in hong kong.

Where exactly is this module? I know most are on the dis. but not on the Lightnings. My surging idle was caused by a bad ground.

Yeah, what Nick said, where is this thing located? And you said it was a cheap part. How cheap? I'm tired of my rough idle too!

The ignition modual is located on the drivers side, engine compartment, fender, right below your cruise control servo.the cost of the modual was$46.19,lifetime replacement,I didnt know that! thats a pretty good deal.Like i said it fixed my idle, mine would run real rough and surge too.now it runs really smooth, and does not surge at all.

Thank You!

Just changed mine, I cranked and let it idle for a while and it seems to idle smoother! Thanks there Bill!:D

Your welcome.I think when these moduals get old they dont operate right.Glad i was able to help somebody. If other guys would change their moduals, their truck would run smoother.
And also fixed my idle from surgeing too.

Billssvt or anyone,

The instructions say to remove the distributor, and I'm wondering is that necessary since it is located on under the cruise modual and not on the dist itself. Just want to be sure. Thanks!

Nathan

You dont remove the distributor, just unplug the ingnition modual from the driver side fender wall.
