Mark VII Electric Fan

Has anyone looked into modifying one of these(if needed) to work on a Lightning?? I've heard they flow around 3000cfm, and are around 150 bucks new from Ford.. It's just a single fan, probably a two speed... And it flows more air than the Flexalite 210's, for less money. I know I'd have to wire in a thermostat(included with the 210's) and run a relay(NOT included in either)...

Any opinions??

i dont know about that one from the mark but ive been toying with the notion of a stang set up like on a 98. if it will keep my cousins 98 ragtop cool with over 400 at the wheels and 11.90 with an s trim it should keep the truck coo as well with the bigger radiator. just have to wire it up for the ac relay and it has the low speed and high speed wiring i belive

Curt, are you thinking of the Mark VIII fan? It is supposedly "flowzilla", however, one of my Mustang buddies that installed one says it is "ampzilla", too. He says that a 130-amp alternator is a must with that fan. However, he found some place to get 'em for $99 brand new!!!

BTW, I still need to answer your questions about HB.cal. I'm just pooped from setting trusses on my house today. I will email tomorrow night. ;)

Yeah I talked to Jeff and he told me I'd still need the shroud as well, and part of the reason I'm going to the elec. fan is for the space it frees up...Looks like I'm going to stick with the Flexalite 210's...

I've been looking at it, and now that I've got the tuner in my hands :D I've got more incentive to play...

Thanks,

What year markVII are they on? I feel a trip to the junkyard comeing on(I've been there two days in a row, I've got stuff for all my mustang freinds and more stuff to sell on ebay). I'll make that focker work, even if I have a off low and high switch and have to operate it manualy.

It isn't on the Mark 7 guys. I had one of the last year model. 1992 LSC with the 5.0 mustang motor. It had the regular fan with a clutch. I know, because when my wife totaled it it was all smashed up. I about cryed, car only had 11,000 miles. The electric has to be from a Mark 8. The Mark 8 started in 1993. I've seen a few in the scrap yards and yes they need the 130 amp alternators. They were power everything. Also, Where's your buddy getting the 130 amp alt. for $99.00. Thats a good deal.

One good aspect of the Flex 210's is the fact that you can maintain good AC control by only turning one fan on. A good single electric fan that flows a reasonable amount of air is also going to draw a substantial amount of amperage. When do these fans tax the electrical system?.... Usually when you are stuck in traffic on a hot day not moving more than 10mph with the AC on. Problem is if you are at idle and and cycle the hi flow unit on and off a few times, before no time, the electrical system, both battery and alternater will start to feel the pain.
With the 210's you can set it up so that only one fan cycles on with AC compressor. Because the AC will cycle many times a minute, you will find that the one fan will keep the water temp cool and provide adequate flow for correct AC operation and at the same time not tax the electrical system like a single large unit or if both the dual fans come on at the same time. However when water temp creeps up to 200 degrees both fans will trigger.
At any rate, make sure you choose a unit with a good shroud; all the cfm in the world will not cool an engine if it is not pulling air through the radiator. Another thing, don't use fuses on anything that draws amperage and cycles intermittantly, it will eventually blow the fuse and , I've even seen melting of the fuse holder as well. Automoblie circuit breakers and quality relays are the only way to fly for good longtime performance.
Just another opinion!

I am planning one of these for my mustang...the reason is because the look stock. Their original ford and will last forever. Wouldn't have to worry about overheating even in the desert. With the dual speed fan you can hook the low to your A/C and wire the high to a temp sensor. This way when the A/C cycles it will kick on the low speed. I have an adjustable temp sensor that I like very much on my mustang now. It is nice for out at the track..... gives me the ability to run the fan all the way back around to the staging lane so the car is very cool when I run it again.

haha....my buddy will atest to that!! we were at the track last summer right after we got done with his Mark VIII fan install and he shut his car off and let the fan run for not more than 5 minutes and it drained his battery dead. :D

on the plus side, that fan sucks some MAJOR air. personally, i'm still running the stock setup on my truck. How much hp if any are you guys seeing from the electic fan swap?

That previous post is hilarious...They don't censor the "F" word, but they sensor the "Donkey" word...lol..

Thats no good. I work in a machine shop, I swear so much I don't even notice. I'm gonna get yelled at for using potty words:( .
